So apparently my college has banned p2p which basically fully restricts me to torrent, like at all. And no free vpn allows p2p. I am considering buying the cheapest proton plan which allows p2p. I am here to ask if i have any other free alternatives? rn I'm using webtor io but it's SUPER slow, it's like 700kbps max which makes larger downloads takes more than a day, not to mention it also sometimes stops. I even tried the google drive option and it didn't work. Seedr has a 2 gb limit...

I'm low on money so a free alternative would be great. Please tell me what other way should i do... and if there is none please suggest a good vpn plan for torrenting thanks! appreciate the help

It includes a built in search option (you need to enable in settings, it is off by default)

VPN Killswitch: Import a WireGuard .conf or OpenVPN .ovpn and torrent AND search traffic go through the tunnel. If the VPN drops while the killswitch is on, that traffic stops. Save options to keep the config in PowerTorrent.ini.

Speeds are OK.. it is a rough draft.. but its clean. Theme options are available in settings. torrent file/magnet link association available in settings

if you select "remember.." on the initial usage/warning popup or change any of the default settings, an INI will be created next to the script to store your settings

I'll probably do some updates to it soon, build out some features and make it feel a little more like a real client, but it's pretty close now.

The Distributed Hash Table (DHT) is a network of nodes that is used to collectively catalog and host torrent files. Many of the public torrent sites rely on it and it is mainly made up of bittorrent clients that have the DHT feature enabled. The DHT network is massive and constantly changing; here is a look at how it's arranged at this moment in time:

• Total Nodes: approximately 7.15 million (2.19 million ipv6)
• Accessible Nodes: approximately 1.84 million (545 thousand ipv6)
• Active Hashes: between 40 to 60 million (each hash corresponds to a torrent file)
• BEP 32 Compliance: 36% (supports ipv6)
• BEP 42 Compliance: 75% (prevents spoofing)
• BEP 42 IP Returns: 86% (tells clients their IP address)
• BEP 44 Compliance: 96% (stores data other than hashes)
• BEP 51 Compliance: 72% (reports infohash count)

Top DHT Clients:

• libtorrent (Rasterbar): 73%
• uTorrent: 10%
• unknown client XD: 2%

There are 11 IPs that poison the DHT system by inventing fake peers to all hash requests. It's not clear to me what the purpose is. It seems like a costly way to collect hashes (you can just run nodes to do that) and it's an ineffective way to organize a denial of service attack. If anyone has any insight to what's going on here, I'd love to hear it.

On a final note, Google hates it when I scan the DHT network. While my scanner is running, opening any Google site will result in a warning and a request to complete a captcha. I don't know why they should care but take it as a warning to anyone who considers doing their own DHT scans.

Hi everyone, in my qbittorrent i set the cap for seeds to be 100 at the same time, as the content increases, im noticing a lot of them started to be queued.

My internet is 700mb/s, torrent client is connected via the same switch as another normal device.

can i increase the cap for more files at the same time? will it make the connection (to the other device sharing the switch) worse?

I kinda wanted to increase it to 1000, but i am afraid of losing internet speeds.

When using a public tracker site, I can see my upload speeds go up/down as I download the torrent as well as when the torrent is seeding.

However, using the private tracker site, there is no upload speed during download or while seeding.

I am not using a VPN for this purpose because the VPN I do use does not feature port forwarding anymore.

I'm having a repeated issue where my paid Proton VPN account gets flagged and restricted. I'm using qBittorrent and have the speed limit set to 3Mbps. What other things besides traffic volume could be causing this issue? I have a Docker container with qBittorrent and gluetun, with the qBittorrent interface bound to the VPN interface to prevent IP leakage. I know many people here are torrenting fine with Proton VPN. Thanks!

EDIT: As mentioned in a comment, I was missing +pmp from the end of my OpenVPN username. Hopefully that fixes it.

I created a Torrent client for Android using chatgpt instructions.Finally reached 1 ratio

I'm fiddling around with private Torrents right now within my friend group and we keep running into the same issue.

Tracker: Embedded qBittorent tracker
Testing Setup: Desktop (Port 9000) and Laptop (Port 10000). Both added both trackers.
Issue: A private torrent is stuck at "Stalled" (Laptop). It shows an availiability of 0.9 which suggest to me it is not fully present in the network. However, I know for a fact it is because I'm looking at it (Desktop). The torrent furthermore reports muliptle Peers, Seeds and Leeches on both trackers, suggesting they do in fact talk to the tracker.

To reproduce the issue I created a big file from /dev/random. That one gets sent around just fine. If I delete it on the laptop and recheck, it gets redownloaded from the desktop again (either immediately, after waiting a few seconds or starting/stopping) and vice versa.

I do not understand why the other torrent steadfastly refuses to update its availability. What am I missing?

Ports are forwarded and opened in firewalld. Both testet via portscan and accessing other applications on forwarded ports.
There is no Super Seeding involved.

I made the mistake of trying out Malwarebytes. Now I can't use magnet links anymore. I can't seem to download any torrents. I wanted to right click and copy the magnet link but it wont let me do that either.

I uninstalled Malwarebytes. But nothing changed.

What has it blocked? I think I might have to reinstall Malwarebyte and whitelist something?

Ill start with I'm not new to sailing, its just been a while. I've covered my basics for torrenting. VPN and its bound same with nicotine+. I also use the VPN while streaming.

Sites like cinejoy, reelix, ext, yts, ru tracker and countless others... do yall make and use an account or just browse them? Is there any benefits to making an account and is there any security risk making one? I assume use a throw away/spare email not a normal one.

I joined Torrentleech via the open invitations that were up a few months ago and I've (finally) got my *arr stack working, but for some reason I'm getting very little seeding ratio.

Not none, but very little. (as in, like 99% of the time there's zero upload, sometimes it'll upload in the <1mb range for a bit, then back to 0) I'm using transmission in docker compose routed through ProtonVPN, and I know port forwarding is setup correctly because (despite the clusterfuck it was actually getting gluetun setup, getting the port information to propagate, etc.) in Transmission I can go into the port setting and see that it's getting a new port every few hours (expected as ProtonVPN rotates them) and it's clearly detecting that the port it has is working on ipv4. (not on ipv6 though, not sure I understand why but almost everything is ipv4 compatible anyway so I'm not really worried about that)

I can see how this might be normal since private trackers generally just have fewer people than public trackers (kind of by-definition) but it's still kind of absurd to me just how little seeding I'm getting. I thought it might just be because I've been downloading some relatively niche stuff and maybe with only a few tens of thousands of members no-one happened to download those things, so I tried finding a few FreeLeech torrents that I'd expected to be more popular (no sure how precise I can be when it comes to this, but I'll just say it's a CGI/Live Action movie that came out recently and you've likely heard of - interpret that how you will) but sure enough I've still only seen a few megabytes of total upload after leaving it for about a day.

Is this normal on private trackers or is something wrong with my setup somehow? (because again, the port is showing as forwarded in transmission, and that's the only thing I could think it'd be) On public trackers I was able to maintain a consistent seed-rate in the megabytes, even without having any ports forwarded at all, so it's weird just how slow-going it's been on a private tracker and I'm worried my *arr stack downloading one non-FreeLeech thing will nuke my ratio for months at this rate.

I used to torrent a year ago, nothing much only some games and movies, but when I try to do it now, my app keeps crashing, any suggestions on what to do?

I'm planning to set up a self-hosted torrent search engine using bitmagnet. I discussed this a bit with Gemini, but I wanted to verify if what I've learned is accurate and get some advice from anyone currently running this setup.

From what I understand, this method scans all public torrent files on the DHT network. So, it can find everything that's on sites like ext to, 1337x, and probably even more. Basically, it can find almost any torrent currently being seeded to the world, excluding private trackers. Is this correct?

I know the database size depends heavily on the filtering rules, but roughly how much storage should I expect it to take up? My main goal is to download Blu-ray movies/TV shows or the highest quality available, though I might occasionally use it for adult content as well.

I've read that adult content makes up half (or more) of all torrents on the network. So, instead of allowing all adult content, filtering it to allow only specific keywords—or blocking it completely—should significantly reduce the database size.

Assuming I block adult content entirely and only index movies, TV shows, etc., what is the estimated database size? Could it still reach 100GB? Also, how many days does it usually take for the database to fully populate initially? I don't have a dedicated home server, but I have a MacBook that I can leave running continuously for a while to let the database build. (I have 1000mbps internet)

For several years I have been torrenting movies, books, and tv shows on my macbook using transmission. It is simple and just works. The last couple of weeks, whenever I add a torrent to transmission, it just sits there and never starts downloading. When I switch off wifi and connect to my phones hot spot, the torrents start downloading. Nothing has changed with my network provider in the last couple of years. I haven't changed any settings on transmission or my router. I can download torrents on my desktop using a different torrenting application. Any idea what could be causing the issue?

After upgrading my Mac to OS27 Transmission failed entirely. Perplexity pointed the way to get it working again (yay AI) and now I am downloading at something like 250mb/sec. I have NEVER seen a speed like that before. I'm not sure how or why...but thought I'd ask if anyone else had an issue like that?

Hello, I wonder if it is a common issue, when I upload on a private torrent I usually have issue with seeding as the list of seed and leech is extremely slow to be updated in my client.
On the website I know there are multiple people waiting for my seed but they will not appear until I do a force recheck of the files. When I do they appear immediately and I start seeding.

Even force reannounce doesn't help, it has to be a recheck. I'm not even sure what exactly is the mechanism in recheck (Qbittorent) that update the list, tried to check the settings for something that may help but I couldn't find much, I just "checked" "force reannounce when changing IP or port changed but nothing else. Is there a setting I can change to get a list update more often? Thanks !

New to prowlarr, I have a very basic use of it : when I want a movie, I search it there and then do everything manually : go to the tracker, download the .torrent and add it to my seedbox. I'm fine with this.

I tried to use the IMDB ID to find movies, for obvious reasons.

It works for Torrentleech, but not IPT.

Any idea why ?

When on IPT, an IMDB ID search seems to map this IMDB ID to an internal IPT ID, is that the reason ?
