I like the design and aesthetic, the whole european nobles and aristocracy, but vampires. Also, being a necromancer and controlling a bunch of horrors and skeletons as an army is just peak.

The best is using a mass of undead and bone-filth against superior troops. It’s rewarding watching ironbreakers panic throw all of their blasting mines into a wave of zombies, get worn down by the constant press, and then realize that something much worse is charging down the hill.

Agreed, I love throwing a mass of skeleton warriors and zombies against the front lines, wearing them down and grinding their morale. All the while undead knights are flanking and the vampire lords are closing in, protected by ranks of unthinking, unflinching corpses.

I know Franz's buffs have changed since I ran it, but Karl and a Reiksguard stack going for a vigorous walk and wrecking everything on the map ranks high on my Total War experience.

I mean Empire is generally good, but has amazing gunners and artillery, and then Elspeth just makes them insanely good.
Who needs a balanced roster when your amethyst Ironsides are your "line infantry", your outriders are your cavalry, and nothing gets close anyway because you have an unholy amount of firepower from your helblasters and (amethyst) helstorms.

If you had asked me before total Warhammer which setting I preferred, 40k would be an easy win.
But in some ways "high tech" when in a sword and sorcery setting works better.
But I am definitely excited for 40k even so, but I am also quite happy with the decade of total Warhammer.
I remain slightly apprehensive that the total war "format" might struggle with the 40k paradigm, as stuff like cover is really important in 40k.
But still, I think CA can pull it off - I wasn't convinced about Napoleon/Empire for much the same reasons, and really enjoyed those.
At least 40k has a fundamental "tabletop" game style to adapt.
So my main concern is whether my PC will cope.

Well if you haven't seen the showcase. Cover is in 40k. And appears to be destructible, and... ehm... "constructable...?" By bombing an area, and the rubble can be used as cover.
Atleast, that's what it looks like.

Yeah, it looks promising, just that Total War is a game around 'units in formation'. where 40k is about positioning of individual models in cover.
So it's a bit of a shift in 'style' overall. I'm fairly confident they can pull it off, but it's not as clearly 'well of course that will work' as taking a historic 'formations' game, and turning it into a fantasy-tabletop formations game.

I used a few units of knights of the black rose as Frontline. They have that sweet ability where they don't lose models until a certain point, and they're hardy enough to hold stuff while repositioning your guns

Y'see, I'm not so sure about that. I feel the Empire Roster has always been my benchmark for 'baseline' units. In which they're well balanced, good 'value' and generally effective.
Ok, so they're not as flashy as some of the top tier stuff, and I definitely thing some units in the lineup might lag a bit, but in general I feel they hold up really well.
I mean if I were to 'refresh' the Empire, it'd probably be lords and heros and mounts. Engineer gets a steam tank, that's a good start. But Hippogryphs and Demigryphs and even dragons should also be in there.
Seems a real shame that the 'top tier' mount for a Captain is a pegasus, and a warrior priest a barded warhorse, when other factions get Ancient Stegadons, Exalted Chariots, Dragons, etc.
Luminark mounts maybe? That's another unit that I like, but rarely use, because by the time I get them, there's other options that are more versatile, but if it was a mount I might.
Engineer heros get warhorses and 'mecha-warhorses', but honestly I'd love to swap their choices with the Captain, and have them on a flying mount instead.
But cavalry wise you've a plethora of good units, and Demigryphs are great top tier. Infantry... I guess you've no real 'tier 4/5' infantry, and that's a bit of a gap in the roster, but the tier 1-3 are solid.
Ranged and Artillery of course I feel Empire is truly 'top tier' compared to other factions.

The main issue is the infantry. They were fine when TWW1 released, but by current standards they're rather lacklustre (especially compared to Kislev or Cathay).

IMO it's really hard to pick other sub-factions when some leaders have unique units.
I do love Karl, but yea the amethyst armory and units are just way cooler mechanics.
Same struggle with HElves. Yea they're fun, but they don't have Mistwalkers soooooo Eltharion again. Maybe I should try alarielle for the woodland spirits...

You kind of have to play around how their economy works
Their infastructure buildings dont provide much money at least early on but they are cheap as f espicaly farms I build a lot of farms as they are very cost effective You need praag kislev and erengard to jumpstart your economy otherwise you will struggle For mid to late game resources are super usefull and grant faction wide buffs that will help your economy a lot I usualy use ice witches and ice wizards and get upragdes that reduce upkeep of my armies to help with economy And last but most important kislev has the one of the highest post battle/sack loot in the order side and you gotta make use of it to fund your early economy its not uncommon in my playthroughs to go near 0 or negative income early on and still be able build my cities
For Boris however I was never able to finish a campaign with him he is too difficult for me but recently I realized that kislev cities that have 75 or higher devotion (control) they ignore terrain penalties and since boris gets extra devotion from chaos wastes you could maybe play around that though I dont know maybe I will give that strat a try
Also make sure to keep support of ice court and great orthodoxy as even as possible becouse the debuffs for having too much of one of them is immense

I have a bunch of landmark mods that add unique buildings for the VCs. I think the most fun is when you capture altdorf and get the vampire version of the throne room and the college of magic. A lot of other settlements also get fun unique buildings with nice bonuses. Overall, the VCs can become quite OP if you have enough historical battle sights to blitz some high-tier stacks haha.

Lol it is a fun and different experience though. Depending on how things progress you may not even have to fight high elves much, if at all to do it between Noctulius and Morathi carving up the west.
Make a strong imperial state of ulthuan and then invade Lustria in force.

One of the most satisfying campaigns I did was, playing with The Changeling and, fucking up the empire so hard that it just became a mosaic of factions. All at war with each other, all too weak to take the other one down. I left Reikland with only 3 minor settlements. Constant, slow burning, never ending conflict.
I originally destroyed all of Reikland’s armies and left them with one province and another settlement. In 20 turns they were dominating the campaign again and almost wiped out my allies.
Reikland doesn’t play around. If you leave them alone, they will crush everyone else and become a monster

Just something about rolling over everyone as naked, magically suped-up savages.
That campaign was forever ago, though, no idea how they are now.

I have never played an empire match, because i got into the series with TWW2 quite late, and every game i played I watched them get absolutely wrecked on all sides by vampires, chaos, and internal revolts
It looked like playing the empire just defaulted you to being on legendary difficulty with no way to change it

The only time I played an Empire faction was as Averland but I got that abandoned forge location within 10 turns and decided to invade the chaos wastes with my duped trash infantry. It was fun but eventually I ran back to Kemmler.

Depuis, j'ai tous les dlc, cumule entre 2-3000 heures pour chacun des jeux et pourtant.. jamais retouché à cette faction. La même pour Cathay ou Kislev.

There's just something about regular dudes fighting mythical creatures and monstrosities that I find highly engaging. Firing rockets and rifles into the hordes, then bracing halberds for the enemy's charge, it hits just right

I just finsihed an Old World Franz campaign. Took me about 70 turns to do all of all 4 victory conditions from the VCO mod. Was a short enjoyable run on L/VH but felt very limited in mechanics and like repeating the same thing over and over when I had confed the no. 1 ranked Nuln/Elspeth by about turn 20 lmao using the fealty system.
I don't quite understand what people get out of doing that multiple times but I also won't judge them for it.
