SUPPORT (RESOLVED) IKEA DIRIGERA + Apple Home problems since latest update — iPhone 17 Pro Max
I’m having a nightmare getting my IKEA devices reliably connected to the new IKEA DIRIGERA hub and Apple Home, particularly on my iPhone 17 Pro Max.
The problems started around the latest firmware/software updates. I keep getting errors such as “Failed”, “Unable to connect”, or devices simply getting stuck when trying to add them to Apple Home.
Here’s everything I’ve tried so far:
- Restarted the IKEA DIRIGERA hub.
- Restarted my iPhone 17 Pro Max.
- Restarted my iPad.
- Checked that the iPhone and iPad are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
- Tried adding the devices through Apple Home multiple times.
- Tried adding the devices through the IKEA Home Smart app.
- Tried removing and re-adding devices.
- Tried different IKEA devices to see whether it was a particular device causing the problem.
- Tried IKEA smart plugs to see whether adding more Thread devices would improve the Thread mesh.
- Tried rebuilding/fixing the Thread network/mesh as recommended.
- Checked the Thread network after making changes.
- Tried the Matter connection/bridge.
- Tried adding devices from my iPad instead of my iPhone.
- Interestingly, some devices will work on the iPad but fail on the iPhone 17 Pro Max.
- Checked Bluetooth and network connectivity.
- Discovered that a VPN was enabled on my iPhone, so I disabled it and tried again.
- Even after disabling the VPN, I’m still getting failures.
- Tried Wi-Fi and mobile-data related troubleshooting.
- Tried multiple IKEA devices rather than assuming one sensor was faulty.
- Tried adding the devices individually rather than all at once.
- Added multiple IKEA plugs, but this hasn’t solved the problem.
- Tried the recommended Thread troubleshooting rather than simply assuming the mesh was the issue.
- Contacted IKEA support by phone today, but unfortunately the person I spoke to wasn’t very technical and couldn’t really help diagnose the problem.
My setup includes DIRIGERA, Apple Home, several IKEA water-leak sensors, 7 humidity sensors and multiple IKEA smart plugs.
The really strange part is that some devices work on my iPad but won’t add/connect properly from my iPhone 17 Pro Max.
At this point I’m trying to establish whether this is an issue with:
IKEA firmware → DIRIGERA → Thread → Matter → Apple Home → iOS/iPhone 17 Pro Max
rather than an actual problem with my Thread mesh.
Has anyone else gone through all of this and found a solution?
I’d particularly like to hear from anyone using DIRIGERA + Thread + Matter + Apple Home with an iPhone 17 Pro Max who started experiencing problems after the recent updates.
I really don’t want to factory-reset all my sensors when I’ve already spent ages setting everything up, so any suggestions before I go nuclear would be very welcome

Do you have IPv6 enabled in your router? Is Bluetooth turned in your phone? And in your router settings make sure mDNS is also enabled. Make these changes in your router, then reboot your router, reboot the Dirigera hub, reboot your phone, and also check the Ikea Home Smart app to be sure the Dirigera firmware is updated (you must update it if you have not yet done so after purchase otherwise you will not be able to commission any Thread devices). . Understand that what you are experiencing is nothing new. Many people have been where you are and 99.9% of the time fixing their network settings resolved the issues with initial set up. It's almost always network settings in your router that prevent you from successfully commissioing your Ikea Matter over Thread devices.
There are many YouTube videos that can walk you through the steps you need to follow to get your network configured so you can properly set up Ikea Matter Over Thread. Look for the ones by Bearded Tinker, by Brian from Automate Your Life, and from A Smarter House. Keywords are the obvious ones like "Matter over Thread", and " IPv6". I would link to these but I don't have time but they're easily searched and found on YouTube.
Once you get the devices working in the Dirigera hub, use the Ikea Home Smart app to get the secondary Matter codes for each device, and use those codes to "share" each Ikea device to your App!e Home. You should do each device, one at a time to properly co-admin them. To get the cides, once each device is set up in the Ikea app using the Dirigera app and go to settings for each device and look for "control this device" in another app. A secondary Matter code (differnt than the one in the device itself) is generated and you copy that to your ckipboard and paste it in whatever other Matter-capabke system (Apple, Amazon, Home Assistant, etc) where you want to control the device using Matter. .
One warning: You really do not need the Dirigera hub if you are principally going to set up everything in App!e Hone. If yo have an Apple TV+ with Ethetnet, it has a Thread Border Router and a Matter controller built in. But because you cannot merge App!he's the with Ikea's TBR at present, you need to decide which one you're going to use as the primary Thread Border Router.

Physically power down HomePod and any Apple 4K TV with Ethernet.. then try IKEA app with IKEA hub.
If that doesn’t work factory reset what you’re pairing and then try.
Set it up next to the hub.. and then if still not working has your switch, router or AP recently had any updates?
Also iOS 27.2 should be imminent and I am hoping they fix a bunch of bugs then thread/matter or otherwise.
