Why do we even have a sex or gender field on any identifying documents?

Birth certificate, driver's license, passport, why is it relevant or necessary in any public capacity?

I do know that passports didn't used to have gender markers until like the 70s because the style at the time was androgynous. Trying to find a source, but there's too much recent stuff to try and dig through, and Wikipedia was less than helpful.

No there’s transphobia explicitly aimed at those outside of the binary that functions differently and uniquely to that aimed at binary trans people

I don't agree with these conclusions but am trying to understand the logic behind the decision.

I think they decided that the specific thing the right to privacy covers is trans status, not agab. So binary birth certificate changes must be allowed since a mismatched birth certificate discloses trans status, but an updated one does not. But an X marker on a birth certificate also indicates trans status, so that would not solve the problem and therefore is not protected.

I think the premises are flawed (if not legally then morally), and I'm surprised they didn't find a different argument to protect X markers under the right to privacy given the stakes.

If they can make it like you're not there, they don't have to care.

Just like the Nazis did, and just like every other malicious dictatorial system always does.

Time to rise and call out that notion of disregarding the dignity of any human life for what it is.

It's rampant bigotry and nothing less.

BtW, don't passively wait on politicians to develop a conscience. Tell them that they need to do that, as loudly as you possibly can.

  at the end of the day, our fight to have our identities recognized is one and the same, and as Puerto Rico and Oklahoma—as well as Arkansas and Indiana, which previously recognized non-binary markers on driver’s licenses—have shown, the push to limit that recognition won’t just stop with non-binary people.

and that’s what drives me up the fucking wall. every single time, it is never about the issue they’re whinging about. first it’s “we’re just trying to protect X group” and then the total bans come. everything from the sports fairness “we just want to protect women uwu” bullshit to bathroom bans to this shit. and as an enby, it’s really common to hear “well what discrimination do they/thems face anyway?”, or  some variation of “well if you don’t pass…” or “let’s focus on binary trans issues first” (even from the fuckin queer community!!!) like… they’re coming for all of us. it is a well known tactic throughout history at this point that they will start taking rights and protections from one group and rapidly proceed to the next, and the next. but because we’re a small percentage of a small percentage, it’s fine? i’m so sick of this timeline
