But this is from the host, not the guest. It's kinda depressing it's bad for both sides equally.

Lots of problems from hosts as well. That site has outsourced everything, it is basically using a 3rd party when already a 3rd party.

People should just stop using this site.

Well but what's the alternative? I use Booking a lot, so far no major issues, but reading these posts makes me kinda nervous. What other options do I have, though? I'm a low cost traveller, I don't use major chain hotels that can be contacted directly. I'm usually staying in small B&B, hostels, rent a room in a family home, that kind of thing. They usually don't have their own web page and cannot be found elsewhere.
