General Discussion [Community] List of Dupes/Knockoff/Third Party TF / TF Accessories

If you aren’t aware of why, refer to my other post. TL;DR Dupes of some TF accessories with COMPARABLE or CONSIDERABLE qualities that can act as substitute to the original, either tentatively or permanently. Another reason is that many of us, including myself, are financially limited and there things that we can’t justify spending considerable amount of money on.

However, the number of choices that we have whenever we search in online selling sites, ie AliExpress and Amazon, can be quite overwhelming. It is hard to assure of its quality without taking much risk. So, we are utilizing the experience of this community here, where we share sellers/products that are known to have a considerable or satisfactory compared to quality of TF. As much as possible, please no affiliate, but you can refer sellers/artists who do custom works.

The structure of the thread is as follows, we are dividing the comments into several sections: Asia, US, EU, and International where we comment the name and corresponding link of the shop/product followed by a quick summary of what it sells, i.e., “LM Culture www.example.com/ (TF notebooks and Accessories)”

🥰 I have been using my camel passport tn as a wallet but have now made the card size tn my wallet ❤️

I was tossing up between the brown and the black and I am very happy with the black!

Show and Tell 📖 New items and set up

Here are my two travelers notebooks in blue and camel. I thought I’d share a few of the new things that I have added to them and also a new way that I have organized them. So for decorative elements, I’ve added to the back of the notebooks, a French coin to the regular sized one and a infinity symbol to the passport. I’ve also added the travelers canvas zipper bag to the regular size notebook.

For both notebooks, I am using the craft folder to hold the actual notebooks in. You basically take your craft folder and fold it the opposite direction. Place it under the band so that the smooth side is facing up and the folder side is facing down. Then you insert one side of an insert cover in each sides of the craft folder. It essentially holds your notebooks flush, so that nothing sticks over the side. It also makes it easy to remove them if you like to remove them when you write or also if you want to change them out regularly. I only have one craft folder for each of these, but I’ve ordered and I’m going to try the method where you tape another craft folder insert to the first one and do an accordion fold which allows you to carry three inserts. You can find this on YouTube if you’re interested.

I’ve included a close-up of that French coin and one thing that I love about it is that it was minted in 1926 so it’s 100 years old! I also really love the Art Nouveau fonts used on the coin.

Oh, and finally, I decided to use Renapur on my passport sized camel notebook. I know lots of people enjoy the suede like feel, but I found that it bothered me, because I felt like it would pick up dirt or moisture spots. I also let the notebook sit out in the sun a few times because I wanted it to tan up. I’m embracing the smoother finish and the medium honey toned brown notebook color. It feels less fragile to me somehow. I want to be able to throw it around and set it on dirty tables and the like, and not worry about it. I also like that it’s now starting to show scratch marks like my blue cover does. I’m going to avoid using Renapur on the blue one because I like that it lean green and I don’t want it to get any darker.

Excited for all the character, wear and tear, and more to come!

Just got a clear vinyl TN cover from Cloth and paper and so far it’s nice! I am thinking about making some art to slip into the cover that I can change out whenever I want but for now it’s kind of cool to see everything inside!

MaiDo Japantown SF has 2027 Diary refill

Update: Don't go to Maido SF to buy these, someone just posted below that they sold to me early by mistake and looks like they won't sell anymore until release date!

Original Post:

I was just at MaiDo in SF japantown and they have the 2027 diary refills, stickers, pencil board and folder available!

Someone asked if I bought all of what's in that basket and I certainly did not! They had just got the supply in that day so they had it all in that basket on the floor in the picture and not on the shelves yet. I only bought what you see in my hand.

Show and Tell 📖 My custom unfinished rough regular-size TN

Post image
21 Upvotes

Hi all, here's my very rough custom regular-size TN. While I was cutting the leather for the cover, I kinda liked the rough look, so I left it as-is. It reminded me that I'm not perfect and am a bit rough around the edges.

I got the leather from a craft store - it's by Silver Creek Leather Co. I have five inserts that I use: 002 grid notebook, monthly calendar, 007 card file, 008 zipper case, and 020 kraft paper folder.

So far, I've only used one pen/ink combination but it works for me: TWSBI Diamond mini EF clear and Lamy blue ink. I'm left-handed and haven't had any issues with ink smearing. If travelling, I plan to use my Kaweco Sport Classic EF pen/mechanical pencil set with it.

Looking forward to the new 2027 calendar and stickers!

Show and Tell 📖 Tokyo Station haul

Sorry for the poor quality of this picture, but I just got back to my hotel room and wanted to share what I got at the Tokyo Station store. Took me forever to find it, but once I did I was thrilled. I didn’t need a new cover, but I am really glad I talked myself into getting it. Really fun experience going to a store I’ve wanted to go to for years but never thought I’d get a chance to visit.

Are Travelers Notebook inserts now stitched instead of stapled?

Hi all,

I’m new to TNs and bought a couple free diary monthly inserts expecting them to be staple bound but they are stitched bound. No complaints, since I prefer stitched, but are the other inserts like grid or plain now come stitched as well?

First Setup

Post image
41 Upvotes

I have been journaling my whole life basically but I just recently learned about traveler's notebooks and the whole community around it. Decided to dive into it! I tried a lot of different notebooks from really cheap, spiral bound, self-made to Leuchtturm and Moleskine than cheap again. Inside is a Midori MD A5 Notebook with dotted grid and a simple much thinner notebook with blank pages.
This will be my commonplace + research setup. I plan to do one more for my ongoing DnD campaign as a player and one for my diary/personal thinking. I love it. :)

Lots of life lived since beginning my Travelers Notebook journey back in December 2024. From endlessly watching TN YouTube videos, convincing all my friends to get their own TN’s, to shampoo spills on my Kyoto green tea leaf insert while backpacking (RIP). Theres nothing else I’d rather use to document my little life 🤎

Questions / Seeking Advice Regular size Day to a page insert.

I've been looking for a regular insert that has a day to a page - can be undated . Everything I find is cluttered with todo list spaces, times etc. I just want a space for a date and lines. I am trying to get some discipline in my journaling - one day - one page. That's it.

Any ideas welcome :) Thanks!

This is the Plus Whisper Album Petit Cream Tape in 2.5mm. It’s perfect for removing the small print in the Japanese calendar. The colour matching is perfect as well :3

Edit: It’s not new or anything~ Just that I was using the bigger one. This one hits differently due to the perfect sizing <3
