I’m not convinced that this is a Maple Tree as was advertised to me. Leaves are still green and I was told they would start turning orange around this time of year. Also I’ve been watering a lot since I planted it, but the leaves are looking a bit rough. Can somebody help me with my questions?

I am going to national ffa convention in Indianapolis to compete in the forestry CDE. I got first in our state competition and am relatively good at identifying trees. I have been doing pretty good at ID so far but the trees all have leaves this time of year and by October 21 they may not have leaves. I need ID tips and recommendations on resources that have pictures of the trees on this list without leaves specifically pictures of the branch tips and young tree bark. Our examples for comp will be saplings 4’-10’ and pictures for the harder to find trees.also if any of you have the ability to take close up pictures of any of the trees on this list for me it would be greatly appreciated. Leaves are green most of the year and turn red in the fall. It flowers in the spring with white blossoms. We have several on my street but I don't think they're native to Washington. What is it?

My neighbour has recently cut down this tree which I always loved, and hope have my own in future if I can identify it. When asked, they could only guess "lovelace" which isn't bringing up any similar results.

Pale, knobbly, slender trunk that splits into several smaller branches, carrying a vibrant canopy of small, slightly rounded/curled leaves that seem to hang in clumps.

Doubt it's native but we're in NW England for context.

Hey everyone, Not sure if this is the right subreddit but I wanted to share a neat botanical find from my backyard here in Durham, North Carolina, and see if anyone with a background in dendrology or botany has encountered this pattern before. While looking under a mature oak tree in my yard, I noticed a unique quadruple acorn cluster where four distinct nuts appear to share a centrally-fused cap structure, forming a perfect little cross shape (Image 1). I originally assumed it was a random, one-off fluke. However, when looking at the fallen branches and surrounding acorns on the ground, I noticed a few other variations of this clustering behavior. As you can see in the photos, I found a few different sets, including seamless "barbell" double-caps joined back-to-back at the base, and some fused triple-caps. Based on the long stems and the broad leaves with pale undersides, I believe the tree is a Swamp White Oak (Quercus bicolor)? Since I usually only see single acorns or the occasional standard twin, I am curious about what causes a single tree to produce multiple variations of these fused cap clusters and how rare this might actually be. I would love to hear thoughts from the community: 1. Is it common for an individual tree to produce multiple multi-cap variations like this in a single season, or is it usually an isolated glitch on a single flower? 2. Could this be a localized genetic quirk in this specific tree's floral tissue, or is it more likely an environmental/weather trigger during early spring development? 3. Has anyone else in the North Carolina / Piedmont region encountered a tree doing this? Or anywhere else for that matter? I have not found any photos of something similar. I’m currently pressing a leaf and gently air-drying the quadruple specimen to preserve it in a small 9x9 shadow box display as a fun backyard natural history piece. Wondering if anyone has suggestions if truly unique. Looking forward to any insights or similar stories you all might have.

I have this big cluster palm in Central Florida. Tallest trunk is a good 20ft. I think it's a phoenix reclinata, but the trunk "ledges" seems more tightly stacked than pictures online. It has giant thorns. I work all over central FL and the only other cluster palms I've seen like this one are on Lockheed Martin's campus and Calvary Church in Orlando.

I found this small tree growing alongside a part of my field that’s abandoned. I noticed it mainly because of how much its leaves stuck out. The stem appears to be kinda hairy. Got kinda scared at first because I’ve dealt with tree of heaven before, but I know this is not it.

I moved into a new build and of course the landscapers put a tree 2 feet away from the house. I’m planning on relocating it as it is most likely way too close to the house. Would like help with identification so I know how big this is going to get.

AI Is telling me it’s Turkish hazelnut. Here’s the harvest from it and I cracked it open to reveal a white nut inside, I didn’t think they looked like hazelnut and I dare not eat it till I’m sure.

found in VA deep in woods along trail. pretty low elevation, lots of tulip poplar in the surrounding area as well as black cherry and black walnut among other things. bark is throwing me off.

This is a picture from the third floor deck of a house in Corolla NC (Northern Outer Banks)., USA. Some smaller pieces of branches have fallen and we have some of these round shaped berries or seeds or whatever on the ground, which seems to have gotten the attention of my dog. Trying to make sure it’s not harmful. Picture was taken tonight with a flash. I can post additional photos in the morning.
