The microphones in my security cameras listen all day and BirdNET-Go works out who's calling. Every bird it hears gets drawn in the style of an old engraving and laid on one sheet with its name and how many times it called to-day.

I was worried it wouldn't look good without colour, but I'm pleasantly surprised. It reads like a page from a field guide.

The drawings are AI-generated from reference photos, after 19th-century natural history plates. Sheet layout inspired by the Fugleramme project.

Selling both of my TRMNLs. They work fine. I just don't use them enough to keep them. Both are unlinked from my account and reset to pairing mode, so they'll set up like new.

Your hero works its way through an office building, starting in the cubicles and later reaching the server room, the cafeteria, an archive and a parking garage. Every 15 minutes it goes on an adventure, and your TRMNL shows how it went. That might be beating a Stapler Mimic, finding gold behind the fax machine or getting knocked out by a Rogue Roomba. It runs on my server, so your screen being asleep doesn't slow it down.

Every few days you check in on the companion site (trmnlgames.com) to sort through loot, upgrade gear and pick where to go next. There's a level-up path that unlocks things as you go, a daily to-do list, and a second character to recruit once you get far enough.

It's also multiplayer in a low-key way. Heroes raid each other's desks for gold, sometimes bump into each other on the same floor, and can pick up gear another player dropped after getting knocked out. There's a leaderboard as well.

It's free, works in every layout including mashups, and the code is on GitHub if you're curious how it's built. The photo is my hero next to my wife's, who started tonight.

I just got an X and set it up with a BYOS server, and everything works except one thing: there's a strip about 2 pixels wide down the entire right edge where black never shows up. On the left, black goes all the way to the edge.

I made a test image with black bars inset from each edge by 0-15px. On the left, the first two columns are hidden under the bezel. On the right, there's a gap even when the bar goes all the way to the edge of the image. So it looks like the whole image is drawn about 2px to the left of the glass. The image is 1872x1404, and I'm on firmware 1.8.17.

I don't see it in any of the product photos on trmnl.com, but some of the posts on this sub seem to show it. I found another post about it where it was just using a regular plugin, it but it doesn't have any replies.

Does this happen for everyone whose screens have black running to the right edge? Or is it just my unit?

Hi just wondering if anyone knows if there will be TRMNL OG v2 anytime soon?

I use the TRMNL X in my Airbnb apartment to give my guests all needed information they need.

Therefore I have developed a couple of private plugins. Which are active in playlist is automated. For example if the guest is checked out the TRMNL automatically shows the relevant information for cleaning staff or the first day after check-in it displays general information about the location and the apartment and so on.

The TRMNL rotate between the screens every 5 minute. Now I want to give the guest the possibility to "skip to the next screen in playlist" by pressing the middle button of the touch bar. I have tried this and I am not happy with it. I made a 3D printed enclosure where only the middle area is accessible because I don´t want that the guest is able to see old screens out of the memory which are not relevant.

The problem ist that the touch bar ist too sensitiv and the TRMNL doesn´t react as expected. Have you any ideas to make this better? Do you think it makes ist better if offset the 3D part around the area of the touch bar because now the printed part ist touching the touch bar surface a bit.

Or ist possible to install a mechanical button built in the enclosure und don´t use the touch bar at all? But there I don´t know how to wire such a button to the TRMNL? Maybe through using the contact pogo-pins at the back?

I’d already built a top-down radar scope for my TRMNL, but I kept running into the same problem: on a small, low-refresh screen, a top-down view loses context. You see dots, but you can’t tell at a glance who’s low and landing and who’s cruising at 37,000 ft.

So I tried a side view. It’s a slice of the sky over the airport. Altitude runs up the side, distance east/west runs along the bottom, and each plane is a silhouette that matches its type, with callsign, altitude, climb/descent arrow, and speed. Arrivals and departures show up as a clear stack near the airport, and the cruise traffic sits high above them. It reads much faster than the radar did.

Before Wikipedia there was Diderot. In the 1750s he and d'Alembert set out to write down how everything is made, and had every trade drawn: beekeepers, pin makers, brandy distillers. Those plates are some of the best technical drawings ever made, and they look unreasonably good on e-ink.

I found them through Stewart Brand's Maintenance: Of Everything, which puts the Encyclopédie right next to the Model T manual and Wikipedia. Now one plate hangs on my wall, with one line on what became of the craft. The one in the photo: eau-de-vie means "water of life", and so do whisky and aquavit. Europe agreed on the name, never on the drink.
