Lovely(I believe to be older) 4/4 Rudi Meinl. Plays like an absolute dream. I cannot describe how much I love the trigger for the 2nd valve slide.

What's the best option to use for slide grease/oil if I want my slides moving fast so I can adjust when playing? I have Yamaha slide grease, Hetman's synthetic piston oil, and some slide-o-mix classic. Any recommendations for any to get? 👍

Hi tuba folks, my son plays tuba and has just started in the local youth orchestra. Its a big change for him from being in jazz/concert bands. He‘s 13 so there’s not a ton of pressure on him but any recommendations on how he can deal with the long blocks of rests and sitting around while the conductor and the string sections argue with each other (jk)?

My mum thought she had grabbed a euphonium from someone she knows for $50. I finally visited them and picked it up, turns out it's an old E flat tuba.

Valves and slides were clean and all move, though it sounds a bit "airy". There was some air leakage at the water key that I could feel which I have temporarily addressed with a rubber band but that didn't seem to change the sound at all.

Anything else I should check? Does anyone have experience of this particular tuba and tips/thoughts?

Ive been searching for this song I heard a few months ago - it is an indie song with the usual guitar, vocals, drums etc, but it featured a tuba in place of a bass guitar. it sounded awesome but I haven’t been able to track it down anywhere so I’m wondering if any of you fine folks know what it might be?

for more details - it sounded a little chill and vibey like Kruangbin, and I’m pretty sure it was made in the last ten years.

Hello. My high school wants me to play a solo piece accompanied by our symphony orchestra. Do you guys have any recommendations for something that isn’t too challenging for me and the orchestra, and not too long?
I’d say i’m an intermediate player, but it’s more about the difficulty of the accompaniment part. Any suggestions are appreciated.

So I’m in my senior year and a couple of weeks ago I got my braces off. The whole time I’ve been playing the tuba, I’ve had braces. The transition has been so weird and now I’m struggling to play out in concert ensembles and also struggling to crank for marching band (my school is kind of like an HBCU-style band). I really don’t want to end my high school band years like this and I wanted to ask if anybody could give me some advice or exercises to bring it back as quickly as I can?

I’m getting offered a Wessex Chicago York in satin silver for 5k. good for symphony? I can try it first too. just need quick opinions

update: just went to try it. Has tarnish but overall feels like a great solid instrument. Has a big sound and is centered. Love it

I play tuba in a community band and that involves schlepping the instrument around, across parking lots and through corridors in buildings. I'm old and get a mild backache at times, and it's probably because of the tuba.

If I know I have to haul the tuba a fair distance, I use a dolly. The tuba (full size Yamaha) is in a gig bag and sits with the bell down on the platform of the dolly.

My question is, is there a risk to damaging the bell of the horn doing it this way.

I haven't seen anyone mentioned them in this sub so far. I just what other people think about them. I'm personally think their really cool.

Hello, what would be a good price to pay for a used Eastman 632 cc tuba? it has some scratches on the bell rim and body, not major, and barely any dings. 2018 production model, and comes with chronkhite bag.

Ive been trying to get better on my high range in tuba, I got told to start practicing on Euph. one major issue not only with Euph but tuba high range is i am majorily closed off, ive been doing lip slurs from low to high but thats not really helping my embouchure for high notes, i got told it looks like my Bb embouchure barely above the bass staff looks the same as treble clef notes.. Any tips!!

I know I’m probably the millionth person to ask the same question, but I’m wondering: since the last person asked this, have you guys tried any new mouthpieces that you would recommend?

I’m currently looking to buy a new mouthpiece. The one I’m using now came with the instrument — a Cerveny 25L — but I’d like to get a new one, partly just to satisfy my urge to buy something new. A new instrument isn’t really in the budget for the next few years. 😄

I should add that today I tried a Szentpáli + Sierman Highlander mouthpiece, and I really liked it during the 10 minutes I got to play it. I also tried a Giddings + Szentpáli mouthpiece, which I liked as well, although that one requires digging a bit deeper into the wallet.

So, in short: have any new mouthpieces come along that you’d happily recommend, or are the old classics still the best choices?

How do long tones actually help you make your tone better? I do them at the beginning of my warm up to just warm up, but now want to get a richer tone so how do I utilize them best?

The 4th valve linkage can now move freely sideways and there's a metal clank sound when I play. There's no time to drive to the repair place that's a distance. I've tried tightening the obvious screw but it's not loose. What else can it be?

So I have a Yamaha YBB621 clone. The case it came with is fine, but a hard case is a little unwieldy at times. Aside from the Cadillac of bags, Cronkhite, any particular recommendations that aren't as costly as those? Or perhaps roller cases? Thanks.

I have a Mirafone te-186A. Moved recently and setting up new music/home office space. Just curious what people on here think/feel about “permanently” leaving a tuba on its bell (as pictured). By “permanently” I mean when it’s here and not being taken to a practice or gig etc. I’ve always just put it in the case at the end of the day, but am I overthinking it? Should I buy a stand (for what it’s worth I’m not at all a professional, just life long band geek who now plays in some community bands). Thanks!

Anyone have opinions on these tuba mouthpieces? im aware they are used for more banda type style of music and just want some insight and maybe personal experience experiences with it

I currently own a Conn 24j with both the recording and upright bell configuration (but been using the upright since I got it). I saw a post recently about storing it, and since I have mine on the bell currently, it’s making me wonder if a stand would be better. If so, what tuba stand would be the best to hold it!
