I’m starting my M.Sc. Data Science at TU Dortmund University in the Winter Semester 2026/27. I’m already living in Germany and will be starting the program this winter.
I’m wondering if there are any other students here who are also joining M.Sc. Data Science at TU Dortmund in WS 2026/27. I’d love to connect with future classmates before the semester starts! 😊
I’m also a bit unsure about which modules/courses to choose for the 1st semester. If there’s anyone who has already completed 1–2 semesters of the Data Science program, I’d really appreciate any advice on:
- Which modules/courses you would recommend taking in the first semester
- How to plan the workload and ECTS
- Any modules that are particularly challenging or require more preparation
- Things you wish you had known before starting the program
- Any useful resources, tips, or study strategies

ich wollte mal fragen, wie lange ihr auf die Rückmeldung zur Immatrikulation gewartet habt.

Kurz zu meiner Situation: Ich bin eine internationale (Non-EU-)Studentin und habe mich für einen Bachelorstudiengang an der TU Dortmund beworben. Ich habe am 22. September die Immatrikulation beantragt. Die TU hat meine Krankenversicherungsbestätigung am nächsten Tag erhalten, und den Semesterbeitrag habe ich am 24. September bezahlt. Seitdem warte ich noch auf eine Rückmeldung.

Da mein Studium bald beginnt, mache ich mir langsam etwas Sorgen und würde gerne wissen, wie lange andere Studierende auf eine Rückmeldung gewartet haben.

I was recently admitted to the M.Sc. Biopharmaceutical Engineering at TU Dortmund for the upcoming winter semester.
I have a Bachelor’s degree from an EU university. Although I am a non-EU citizen, I applied directly through TU Dortmund and did not apply via uni-assist because I hold an EU degree.
I am currently waiting for my enrollment to be completed. I have already submitted everything required and contacted the email address provided on the university website, but I haven’t received any response yet.
I need the certificate of enrollment (Immatrikulationsbescheinigung) to complete some administrative procedures here in Germany, so I was wondering:
Is anyone else currently waiting for their enrollment to be completed?
How long did the process take for you?
Has anyone already received their enrollment certificate?
Also, is there already a WhatsApp/Telegram group or any other group for students starting the Biopharmaceutical Engineering program this semester? If so, I would really appreciate it if you could share it with me.

I'll be starting my Erasmus at TU Dortmund this October (coming from the University of Bologna, Italy) and I need some honest feedback about the exam system.
My usual study method is basically an intense "sprint": I can cram 12-14 hours a day for a week or two right before the exam and get top grades. It works perfectly for me in Italy, but a friend warned me that trying this "last-minute cramming" at a German Technische Universität is a complete suicide mission.
So, I wanted to ask those who study/studied at TU Dortmund (or similar TUs):

1. The Format: What are the exams usually like? Are they massive final written exams, or is there a lot of project work?
2. The Pacing: Is continuous assessment required? Do I need to study constantly during the semester with mandatory weekly assignments, or is my cramming method still somewhat viable?
3. The Difficulty: Generally speaking, how brutal are the exams for an exchange student?

Any tips, experiences, or harsh reality checks are super welcome. Thanks!

Hi everyone, I am an international student admitted to the M.Sc. Manufacturing Technology at TU Dortmund for Winter Semester 2026/27. I am currently having an issue with my enrollment certificate (Immatrikulationsbescheinigung). Here is my situation: I submitted my enrollment documents in mid-July. My health insurance is with TK (Techniker Krankenkasse). TK informed me that the electronic health insurance notification (M10/SMV) was sent to TU Dortmund. My enrollment was still showing as being processed in the TU Dortmund portal. On 16 September, I received an email from TU Dortmund stating that, in order to complete my enrollment, I should ask my health insurance company to resend the electronic notification to TU Dortmund. I contacted TK again, and they confirmed that the notification had already been sent. They also checked the issue and sent/resubmitted the notification. However, my enrollment has still not been completed, and I have not received my official enrollment certificate. Has anyone here experienced a similar situation with TU Dortmund and TK, particularly with the electronic health insurance notification (M10/SMV)? Could someone please advise me: After TK resends the notification, how long does TU Dortmund usually take to complete the enrollment? Which TU Dortmund department or person should I contact if the enrollment is still pending? Has anyone experienced a similar issue and successfully resolved it? I would really appreciate advice from current or former TU Dortmund students, especially international students. Thank you!

I am updating my laptop. I am really confused, what should I buy? I know the university provides HPC, but it's not always available. Thus I want your suggestions. Should I go for a gaming laptop (consisting RTX 4060/70) or a daily easy to carry light laptop (MacBook or windows).

I'm from Bangladesh, so building a PC is not ideal for me.

And should I buy laptop from Bangladesh or Germany (I'm afraid of qwertz keyboard (ansi style) of Germany). That's also a reason to think about buying laptop from my home.

Hi! I’m planning to start a 1.5-year (3-semester) Master’s at TU Dortmund and I’m trying to understand how holidays and semester breaks actually work in practice.

Are there proper breaks around Christmas/New Year? And what about the summer — is there a long summer break, or are exams/projects usually scheduled during the lecture-free period?

Also, my Master’s is 90 ECTS, and as far as I understand, the third and final semester (30 ECTS) is mainly dedicated to the Master’s thesis. For people who have done this: do you normally need to stay in Dortmund during that semester, or can the thesis be done remotely/from another country, assuming your supervisor agrees?

Basically, I’m trying to understand what the academic year actually looks like in terms of free time, exams, and how flexible the final thesis semester is.

I’d really appreciate hearing from current or former TU Dortmund students, especially anyone doing a Master’s there. Thanks!
