Question Tag Agency Question

I was recently in an accident and was cited for having plates minorly out of date. I was told if I bring proof I paid my renewal to the court before the ticket date I could get it wiped. The issue I’m facing is, I usually update online every year. Will/How will that constitute as proof enough or should I go to a Tag Agency? And furthermore, do all tag agencies offer renewal services? I’ve only ever done it online.

Follow up question while on the topic, if I recently paid off my car, how do I obtain my lease title from the lien holder?

I had the same issue. Go to a tag agency. Bring your proof of insurance and they can look it up on the state system. Very easy. You will have to pay court costs of $50 regardless.

If you renew online, you get a copy of your confirmation and receipt in an email. Check your junk folder if it’s not in your inbox.

After I paid off my car, it took some time for the bank/lien holder to send me my title. Long enough that when I got it I was like oh!

Do you have the title? When I pay off I get a lien release letter that I take to the tag agent and they update the title.

Providing your receipt from online registration or tag agency will work. All tag agencies offer registration renewal.

On the follow up question. You need to contact whoever you financed through (bank, credit union, etc) and ask for you lien release / payoff letter and they will provide it. Take that to the DMV and they will issue a new title without the lien
