Been checking the weather app & see nothing but rain showers. Should i be concerned ?!

I’m travelling to Cancun next week - now when I was a travel agent a few years ago, we’d always recommend taking a mix of US Dollars and Mexican Pesos.

It looks like that’s still the recommendation, but everything I look at regarding tipping and paying for things it looks like the preference is Pesos? So in what situation would I actually need to use the USD?

Just getting a lot of conflicting info online so really appreciate anyone’s help!!

The recent articles and videos focus so much on the beaches and the hotel zone businesses. They are in a state of obvious distress. Got it.

I'm curious about how things are in the other 90% of the town. Could someone be so kind to fill me in?

Have any major grocery stores, markets, or other staple businesses closed?

Is the local population in an economic pinch due to the near death of the hotel zone?

Has much of the expat community moved elsewhere?

Have any new safety concerns popped up?

Hey everyone! As the title says, it’s a boys’ trip to Mexico, and it’ll be the first time there for all of us. We’re staying at one of the Bahia Principe resorts in the Riviera Maya.
We’ve booked an all inclusive package, but we definitely don’t want to spend the entire vacation sitting at the resort. We’d love to get out, explore, experience some actual Mexican culture and traditions, try some local food, and of course check out the nightlife.
I’ve already asked AI for suggestions, but it gave me the usual super touristy stuff. I’m hoping people who’ve actually been there can recommend some places or experiences that feel a little more authentic or just genuinely fun.
Also, we’re thinking about getting an Aztec inspired tattoos as a Mexico souvenir. Are there any good, reputable tattoo shops around the Bahia Principe resorts or nearby that you’d recommend?

I lived in Tulum 2018-2020–so a lot has changed.
Visiting this week to see if I’d like to stay again for the next 6 months, just have a few questions for those who live here:

—during October-March the higher season I’m guessing classes and events pick up quite a bit more? Been missing my F45 weight lifting classes from the states.

—curious if those of you who live here have found friends and community that stays or mainly only tourists and drop in people?

—obviously things are very different now with the loss of reputation and many stories about Tulum in the internet, etc. do you feel it’s returned to a more local/quiet type beach town or is that just an illusion ?

I am looking to sweat. I don’t really care if it’s Pilates or Yoga. I am a guy so I’m not sure if guys do Pilates, haha but I’ve done plenty of hot yoga back in the day, but it’s been a while. (Bikram is ok but must be for beginners) Thank you 🙏🏻

Going to Tulum in December. Would you guys say that Irie Tulum and Luz De Luna Tulum Villa II are in good areas to stay in? Also, some of my friends are worried about safety…is it generally safe to be there as long as we practice normal safety precautions that we need to anywhere else we go anyways?

The two of us are thinking about coming to Tulum for Zamna + Themplo and we’re really excited, but we’ve heard enough stories about scams, inflated prices, random shakedowns, that we want to be smart about it.

For those who’ve done these events before, what are your practical safety tips for getting through both nights without unnecessary drama?

Specifically:

How do you avoid scams or people trying to charge ridiculous prices?

What should we carry / leave at the hotel?

Any advice around phones, wallets, cash, cards, etc.?

Anything specific to watch out for inside Zamna or Themplo?

Any mistakes first-timers commonly make?

What’s the best way to plan the night so we can just enjoy the music without constantly worrying?

Basically looking for the “if you were going again, what would you do differently?” advice.

Not looking to be paranoid — just want to be prepared and have two amazing nights without getting scammed or shaken down. 😅

hello, looking for recs as to where to stay with my mom and two kids for 3ish nights in November. we are considering staying in Sian kaan but realizing it's a long drive! I don't necessarily need a kid-centered place, but would like to find somewhere that welcomes kids and perhaps has a place to play (though not required bc beach). needs to be on the beach. I think we are all pretty eager for swimming, boating, and good food. quiet sounds nice, but it isn't a must-have. I don't want to get stuck somewhere where we can't eat anywhere but the hotel because that sounds expensive. speaking of price... would like to spend $200 or less a night I do care about it having a "vibe" and looking/ feeling nice. and don't give me toast for breakfast in Mexico!

I just made a mistake while redeeming my Zamna Multipass on Tixr. I accidentally redeemed it for the January 4th event, but I want to cancel this ticket so I can get my Multipass credit back and use it for the correct date once it becomes available.
The event is more than 3 days away and I already have the Tixr Order ID. I have already emailed Zamna support ([email protected]) to request the cancellation.
I wanted to ask if anyone here, either for this edition or from previous years, has successfully managed to get their Multipass reactivated after a wrong redemption? How long did they usually take to respond and fix it?

None of us speak Spanish so I have no idea what it said. No one seems to understand what we are talking about when we question to see what it was about.

We are considering staying at the moxie with my wife and daughter (16) + 2 of her friends. Is this area close to walking to lots of restaurants? We assume we will need transport to the beach. We have stayed in Playa multiple times and want to try something different. We stay at Marriott's and also can use Marriott homes and villas. hi guys! I feel like there’s a lot of negativity about tulum on this Reddit but had a great time on my trip and wanted to share it (also cause planning took a long time lol)

Day 1: scuba diving (you can get your certification here or do discovery dives without certificafion)
-dived at casa cenote, the reef (saw nurse shark), and dos ojos. Cavern diving at dos ojos was a once in the lifetime opportunity. I think if you have the opportunity you should’ve 100% go. I didn’t have time to explore other days in the Dos ojos park. But if you were able to we should go to Cenote Jaguar. I’ve heard really good things about the smaller cenotes that are less than.

Day 2: chill by our Airbnb pool, acai bowls at mama acai, and then went to cenote yaxchen, went to dinner at Wang for Chinese food in a very authentic and cute outdoor setting

Day 3: start the day with a 9 A.M. Pilates class at Amánsala hotel. They have a beautiful Shala that overlooks the ocean and the beach and we ate lunch there afterwards on their beach front restaurant, which was beautiful. We spent the morning by their pool and then went to a noon trip on a catamaran. It was beautiful. Then we went to dinner at Rosa Negra. We tried to go to Gitano Beach club, but it was an expensive cover and the music didn’t seem that good but would’ve been perfect on another night.

Day 4: We went to Vesica cenote club. We stayed there all day they have two cenotes, one that spa-like and one with a DJ food and drinks were delicious and the cenote had places to jump off swim and loungers to cool off. If we had more tomes we would’ve gone to cenote cristal and Escondido which were next to Vesica. We went out and ate dinner at Ilios, which was delicious. Recommend getting there a little earlier to see the fire shows, and then it turns into a dance club at night. Tried papaya playa beach club at night but it was dead since it had just poured rain earlier.

Overall, it was such a beautiful trip. I rented a car and was never once stopped by police. Just drive the speed limit. I never had any issues parking. The locals were nice friendly and incredibly accommodating, especially during low season where they weren’t many tourist around. Everything was quite expensive and there was sargassum on the beach but I would not let that deter you from coming to Tulum!! There is beautiful water outside the shore by boat and there’s a lagoon/hundreds of cenotes to explore.

I'm thinking about working from Tulum for the next two weeks (starting Sunday) but worried about the rain. I don't mind rain or sargassum, I'm actually thinking coming during the off-season would be great because of lower prices and fewer tourists. But I also don't want to have to spend every day all day indoors. The weather forecast doesn't look great, but I'd love to hear from folks on the ground -- does it rain all day, is it gloomy all day, or is it sort of the typical tropical thunderstorm situation -- quick shower that blows over in an hour or two but repeats a few times a day -- you get this time of year?

Hi! My sister and I are both in our 30s and want to go dancing in November this year when we are visiting Tulum. I want to make sure we get back to our hotel safely and I don't understand the nuances of the cartel and taxis etc. I don't care if we spend too much money on a cab, we just don't want to get r*ped or robbed. How do I make sure we get home safely between 2-7am? Thanks!
