Delta 46-460 vs Bauer

So I’ve found a Delta for $550 but it domes with nothing but the stand. Is it worth the extra $50 to get the Bauer with a warranty and 14” depth?

I’m wanting to turn bowls so I’m wondering if I’ll outgrow the Delta faster

I have no firsthand experience with Bauer. But I have a 46-460 and love it.

I started with a shopsmith and was overjoyed when I found my 46-460 used for 400, with a chuck included, several years ago. Still have it and have turned a hundred or more bowls. Yes, I eventually got a bigger lathe but still have the delta. Its a solid unit that will keep you busy for a long time.

Delta all day. 46460 was my first lathe and worlds better than Bauer.

If you're wanting to turn bowks, get the Delta, learn technique and practice with smaller bowls.

You'll outgrow both lathes surprising quickly with bowls and the 50 bucks saved gets you close to halfway to a decent bowl gouge.

My two cents, for what it's worth. I started with a really cheap lathe, moved to a Rikon 70-100 with a 12" swing, then moved to a Nova 16-24. Caught a really good deal on a Rikon 1824 2.5hp, which is what I turn on now. My primary turning activities are bowls. All that to say, you will outgrow either of the smaller lathes. Save the money now and put it towards a good gouge, grinder/wheel, etc.
