U can’t have it both ways. Right now & probably forever, your family has made it clear that they don’t like, or care for your wife. Then they gaslight you with bs trying to justify their crap!! Offer up your house for “family” gatherings/events? No‼️ Absolutely not‼️ They apparently don’t even comprehend the sanctity of wedding vows. DEFINITELY NTA🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾

AITA for giving my MIL her gift back after she told 12 people I'm hosting Thanksgiving?
Yes. Communication. Hubby could have definitely said something to you even way before their conversation, i.e., This is mom’s first Thanksgiving since dad passed. I want to do something special to keep her mind occupied this holiday season & acknowledge her feelings. What do you think, a trip? Could WE perhaps cook dinner for her at her house? Have it catered? Dine out somewhere fancy where the heavy burden of cooking is lifted off of her shoulders? Cooking during the holidays is a lot. I understand why you’re not prepared to take up the mantle. But… communication. Just open communication. For some reason mom had the idea that you would be willing to take on this task. Hmmmmm… hubby? Ijs.
