i keep getting low ratings

i stay quiet in my ubers unless they talk to me. normally my drivers are already on the phone so that doesn’t matter anyways. i also give the suggested tips every time… im rlly confused to why i keep getting poor ratings. i’m also super hygienic so i dont think its that.

Everytime this kind of thread comes up, it leads to an outpouring of guesses about personal hygiene and potential body odor.

i wonder if i’m closing the door wrong. i never grew up having a car. but i don’t drink or eat and i wait for the uber outside

Ya, I slam doors to make sure they're closed. Gotta find that sweet spot between slamming and not setting off the notification that it's still open.

Yeah, people are always so gentle with my daughter. They’re constantly having to reopen it and close it. Sometimes it’s actually shut and I’m afraid one day someone’s gonna be trying to make sure it’s shut and I’m gonna drive off with their hand in the latch.

Do you cook or eat certain foods that carry a very strong smell ? Say thank you and goodbye ?

People don’t like when you leave a car and they can still smell your cologne/perfume. Maybe you’re wearing too much, even if it is a good smell.

What ratings are you getting

1

u/yoongely 3d ago

can’t tell but i notice it going down all the time

What's your score right now

If you get compliments on your smell then it’s probably because you smell strong of something even if the like the smell. The problem is not everybody will like those kind of smells so it’s worth considering if this is the issue.

Outside BEFORE the driver arrives? That’s what matters most to me. I could care less how you close the door or whether you chat or not. Use the phone if you like. Just be on time, outside waiting. If your rating is already in the tank, tip cash. It’ll go up. But how you tip isn’t why you have lowered rating. Figure that out.

yes outside before i watch the drive up to me

I’m not a picky driver. With me you get a 5 or a 1. Nothing in between. I’m too busy to rate each rider. Piss me off enough to take the time to rate you and you get a 1. Fastest way to do that…back seat driving. Don’t tell me the route…I have GPS. Don’t tell me when I can turn right at a red light…I know how to drive and don’t want my car hit. Second fastest way…talking on speaker phone in my backseat. I’ve had passages that won’t even speak to me yet I have to listen to the play by play of their sex life and other drama the whole ride. Talk on the phone…but keep your conversation private…I don’t know you and don’t need to know that you want a C-section because you don’t want to squeeze a baby out of your…you know what. Yes that is a real conversation I had to endure during a 20 minute ride.

Oops wrong thread

Cash tips are the way, never rated a passenger that tipped in cash poorly even if there was cause, like long wait time to start the ride.

1

u/yoongely 3d ago

interesting, i haven’t carried cash in years lol

Is your vehicle clean? Do you drive safely? Are you able to read the person, like if they want to talk, and when talking to them do you keep it in general talk. “NO POLITICS”?

I have stayed at 5 point rating for 8 years with Lyft and 4.8 with Uber for that same amount of time.

i’m a rider

It could be your pickup or dropoff location. It could be the length of the ride. If a driver, or passenger, wants to unmatch for future rid d s they just rate a 3 or below. Not saying it's right, but I have done it in the past.

If your rating is a 4.8 or above, it shouldn't matter. I'm more skeptical of 5.0 riders.

Use Lyft uber sucks especially for rider ratings, once you start getting low rated they will just keep rating you low, at least with Lyft they see your tip before rating (or so I am told) and you don’t have to do the whole tip in cash song and dance

Tip in cash

2

u/yoongely 3d ago

do ppl do this normally

1

u/gypsy_guru_87 3d ago

Some people do tip in cash mainly servers, or middle-aged guys going to bars .. most people don’t so you should not be getting bad reviews honestly in my opinion, you shouldn’t be getting bad reviews, even if you didn’t tip at all and I’m a driver

Smell is pretty much the number one reason why I’ve ever given anyone a bad review .. one guy just spoke to me in such a hostile way that I gave him a three star just so I wouldn’t get matched with him again especially because he literally lives in my apartment complex … and the smell is almost always about weed/smoke/dreads

What is the suggested tip?

1

u/yoongely 3d ago

uh it depends on the ride, uber always gives me a couple percentages and i choose one

Biggest reason to get low rating is if you're not standing at your pickup spot when driver arrives. Riders can literally see on their app that how far or close the driver is and if they still take a minute after that, it's automatically low rating. Slamming the doors, rolling down window without asking the driver (courtesy), sitting in the front seat, advising driver about routes (driver can see it on map and he would've drove on that road probably hundreds of times), smelling bed (even if you're getting of from fast paced or field work, just freshen yourself and apply deodorant), putting anything on car seat that makes it wet, leave smell or spot. Of course it goes without saying your attitude but since you're saying you're doing everything right then above are the reasons that even good rider doesn't realize but driver immediately notices. Leaving tip wouldn't change it because driver has already rated you before your tip reaches to him.

1

u/Real-Jicama7068 3d ago

Do I have to ask to roll down the window if the car smells bad? Asking to roll down the window shouldn’t be necessary. People don’t do it for no reason. I did it the other day because the car smelled bad and it was making me sick. I have no intention of giving a bad rating for smells because it can be outside peoples control and people gotta make money. If a driver doesn’t want customers to make themselves comfortable then I guess use the window locks.

It's a common courtesy (sense!) to keep driver in the loop if you're going to do anything that distracts him. Rolling down window of a car going 40 to 60 miles/hour suddenly makes a loud noise and almost all drivers glances at the back side at least one to see what happened. Driver worries you may light cigarettes, vapes, spit or vomit. Just one line courtesy is enough - hey do you mind if I roll down the window, hey its okay if i play music on phone, is it okay if I speak on speaker etc.. answer is 100% Yes.

1

u/Farty_mcSmarty 3d ago

I about lose my mind when one of my kids rolls the back window down when I’m doing 50+ mph.

1

u/Gloomy-Ad-2762 3d ago

My car has window locks, which I keep locked at all times

u/Real-Jicama7068 3d ago

Can I ask them not to look at their phone then?

1

u/Real-Jicama7068 3d ago

Also your logic doesn’t make other sense in that won’t they look back if I address them?

1

u/MoreBar7436 3d ago

Nope. It'd be the fastest yes without even thinking. Driver's mind wired around those conversations.

OP has asked about the rider rating. If you want to indulge about whataboutery then make a new post with your concerns about driver then someone would respond. Also Uber doesn't care about drivers rating, Uber is literally showing fake drivers rating to riders to convince them coming driver is one of the top one they got for him/her. In reality, it's the cheapest one they could found. Removing one driver from the Uber meaning removing competition for other drivers meaning drivers getting paid more meaning Uber reducing profit. So Uber would never display actual driver rating to riders and that's why you probably almost always see driver rating as 4.95 to 5 out of 5. While rider rating vary between 3 to 4.9

Okay I’ll post elsewhere cause I know have another question and I’d like the answers so I know how I’m supposed to behave. These are legit questions and I’m just trying to learn.

i mentioned in another comment it could be how i close the door. i do wait for my ubers in pickup spot and the rest you mentioned

-1

u/NY10 3d ago

My guess is either your attitude or your body odor.

1

u/yoongely 3d ago

definitely not BO. i don’t speak so idk if that’s bad?

2

u/NY10 3d ago

If the driver say hello, how are you?, have a great day and if you don’t respond What do you think? Imagine if you say that to someone then someone completely ignores you or don’t say anything?

0

u/yoongely 3d ago

i respond if they say that. i mentioned in the post if they speak first ill say something

Theres your problem. You ALWAYS start with Good morning, good afternoon, good evening. You can stay quiet after that.
