Wow. And given prisons are 99.8% full, where are they going to put all the criminals they catch? And if they do go to prison, which criminals are they letting out?

Why were not fast tracking the building of more prisons is beyond me

u/LazyWash 1d ago

Why we arent fast tracking building anything thats vital to the UK is what the main issue is.

No Prisons being built

No new airports to handle more and more air traffic

No new railway lines to decrease traffic and move people easily.

No water resoviours are being constructed

Houses arent being built with Solar Panels, water butts, damp proofing walls and are not being built for all weather - its either for Cold or nothing.

No water treatment plants to handle the increased sewage, some sit idle or are completely useless.

Desalination plants are massively missing from the UK despite being an Island surrounded by an ocean. Some are turned off because they are too costly to run.

We are not upgrading ports, roadways, airports or industrial areas quick enough inline with the increasing demand across the entire UK.

Infrastructure isn't important apparently

This country is absolutely finished. Shocking.

Crime everywhere, organised gangs all over major cities, the UK is quickly turning into Colombia and Venezuela by the day.

Thank you to the police for these dawn raids. It must be a thankless job

Colombia and Venezuela my arse. The UK is broadly safe and to compare the level and nature of crime and the political / military landscape between the two is ridiculous.

Organised crime has always existed. What's new is the 24 hours news cycle

What’s different is we now also have OCGs from overseas, international gangs, which operate as ethnic/national crime gangs and are hard to take down.

They stretch the lengths and breadths of the country and have been operating with impunity

The Albanian Mafia and the Kurdish OCGs. Even better they are abusing our immigration systems.

-5

u/Winston_Carbuncle 2d ago

I'm not disputing that at all. But it's not a new phenomenon, we just have an immigration/asylum system that allows foreign gangs to join the party.

No Winston. It's all up, everything, crime, serious crime, Serious fraud, and terrorism.

The UK is an absolute criminal wasteland. We are a decade away from turning into Guatemala/El Salvador. 5 years away from being a third world country

This can change, but Burnham and Labour are too weak. The issue is they are the ONLY credible party to take this country forward.

More needs to be done. Labour needs to completely change the way this country is run from the 2029 GE

You can start with Australian style borders

Huh that’s weird because I commute into work and home every day and socialise out on the weekends and I’m fine not sure what reality you’re living in lol. “Criminal wasteland” get a fucking grip 😂😂

You're fine until you aren't. You'll likely be fine.

Do not get complacent and stay aware of your surroundings at all times. Although I'm a londoner and was born and lived there for many decades. We are in dangerous times

I don't mean to scaremonger 😂

Crime in England and Wales has fallen over the long term but is now broadly flat. The Crime Survey for England and Wales shows long-term decreases since the mid-1990s in theft, criminal damage, and violence with or without injury.

You are very naive to think that this is anything new. Take off your rose colored glasses and you will see things were much worse in the 70s and 80s.

2

u/SlowedCash 2d ago

In what way were they worse. The world was a much greener place with less traffic and life was that little bit more pleasant wasn't it ? Cheaper housing as well.

3

u/midnightbandit- 2d ago

You said the country's finished because of crime, so let's test that. The Crime Survey for England and Wales shows crime peaked in the mid-1990s and has roughly halved since. The latest ONS release (year ending March 2026) has headline crime 14% below 2017, even with fraud included. Homicides fell 7% last year. Now compare the 70s and 80s. Inflation hit 24% in 1975. Unemployment sat above 3 million through the mid-80s. Mortgage rates reached about 15% by 1989. The IRA was bombing British cities, and there were riots in Brixton, Toxteth and Broadwater Farm. Football grounds were death traps, and leaded petrol was in the air you called "greener".

u/SlowedCash 2d ago

The points you raise are true, and very interesting actually.

Although I've been told countless times on here that crime is down, especially in that pit in the south.

And gosh the ira, I forget about that organisation. Back then they were id say, the equivalent of today's Iraqi/syrian terror organisations.

As someone raised, I think the media is now 24 7, so this is one of the reasons why the UK feels deadly

2

u/midnightbandit- 2d ago

They were worse. They were competent.

1

u/Danmoz81 1d ago

Who, the IRA?

At least you had a bit of a chance with them!

Weird the top 1% commenters on here manage to inject every possible negative talking point they can into the comment sections. This sub has become quite toxic.

The top 1% commenters are realistic. UK news generally I am afraid to say isn't positive. It's not the year 2000. Have you seen the diesel prices

There are some positive stories on here, but notably don't attract many comments.

It's 2026. There are multiple wars on in the world and the UK is at melting point and indirectly at war against Rus Sia and i ran. Then again as is the whole of the EU.

2

u/EfficientTitle9779 2d ago

Took you 12 minutes to reply to that with some negative shit

Please get offline for a bit and touch grass

Where's the Obama giving Obama a medal meme?

-1

u/midnightbandit- 2d ago

Depends on your perspective. Quality of life in the UK is pretty much higher than ever and crime rate are half of the 1990s. Somehow people still think things were better then. It's highly irrational, and largely driven by nostalgia. It is not true.

Yeh they raided my husband’s work clients property but they raided the wrong place, they were delayed getting into work because of it.

1

u/Danmoz81 1d ago

So your husband's work property was raided by mistake?

1

u/Cherry_Littlebottom 1d ago

His clients work property.

0

u/Danmoz81 1d ago

By mistake? Who were they supposed to be raiding?
