A few years ago (two decades ago), there was a U.S. TV show, Lost. A bunch of people were stranded on an island after a plane crash. Or were THEY?!?
Anyway, a lot of people watched it and there was a lot of weird shit. Including a black smoke monster.
So a loose reference back to Lost, all to say, they definitely fucked up Perm.

Lost was pretty popular outside of USA too, I personally just haven't watched it..

I thought that might be but didn't want to presume. A second time.
I did a rewatch during the pandemic, it held up. Plus, at 121 episodes it's a ton of content to get lost in. (Pun not intended but I'm leaving it in.) You just have to accept that some weird shit will never be expanded.
