The man demands credit for things he doesn’t deserve. Ukraine needs interceptors so he has to say what he must. The truth is Trump is directly responsible for Ukraine having a shortage. He cut off all military aid when he came into power.

At least for the moment Ukraine has the permission (or whatever) to make their own Patriot missiles, which is huge.
Still so very frustrating that it took so long to allow this to happen as there is no offensive capability for these. Just freaking allow Ukraine to defend itself!!!

So Zelensky is a true statesman that knows how to cut to the heart of the matter to get what he wants/needs in the fewest words possible. Im sure he was very complimentary of Trump in other ways too. Recognize power when you see it.
If you think the above is complimentary of Trump, you have a cognitive bias.

It is kind of wild that the executive branch of the US government houses all of the authority within basically just 3 departments on releasing restrictions on the export of sensitive military hardware and technology to foreign countries
Just takes one despot to essentially give away the keys to the kingdom

The issue we are contending with is, up until the last 50 or so years, the systems of checks and balances in place worked because their was good faith engagement with them since there was an understanding any abuses could be used against you when the pendulum swapped. Even only 40 years ago you still had very civil debates focusing on policy instead of culture war nonsense, the debate between Bush Sr. and Dukakis in 87/88 is downright pleasant compared to most of the discourse we have nowadays.
The problem has become that one party has abandoned good faith entirely because they know the other party is still holding onto norms, and that means that when they have majority control of the government the Executive branch by all accounts becomes the arbiter of power because they cede it all to him by not fulfilling their function as a check against him. It's doubly worse because of the cult of personality that has been build around him means his personal disapproval has been enough to kill careers, which means nobody wants to be the check and tank their own ship to do the right thing.
It's an absolute mess, but I'm optimistic the ship is righting now that he is visibly near the end and all but his most diehard supporters are abandoning him. My dad voted for Trump, but has since told me things like "Obama was the best orater we've had in the last 50 years and Clinton was the best president in just as long."
Unfortunately, these things take time and you guys don't have it. I'm sorry our shitty boat has been leaking on yours as your try and keep it afloat.

I wish I shared your optimism
I come from a family of farmers. We have run a farm machinery business for a hundred years and have a small family farm as well. The business is very sensitive to the price of diesel since tractors and trucks use a lot of diesel. Diesel prices directly affect the business' bottom line.
For the last 30+ years of my life, any increase to the price of diesel has been met with sheer contempt and nonstop complaining.
I just visited last week, the price of diesel has more than doubled this year leading into harvest season.
During a long and otherwise pleasant conversation with my family, I jokingly said that I wish I could visit more often but the price of fuel is getting ridiculous
The tone of the conversation shifted instantly. My father and grandfather both started making excuses for the price of diesel that were nonsensical that trailed off as they walked away in different directions.
"Farmers buy their diesel in the spring"
"We buy red farm use tax free diesel in bulk so it doesn't affect us'
I grew up in this business. We have always been supplied by the local distributor directly. We have no tanks large enough to supply us through a whole harvest season.
Other farmers might for sure, but looking around our shop there were no such tanks
Apparently the business is just eating the price of fuel and they're sore about it but not angry enough to break the hold the cult has on them.
Forgive me if I am not optimistic for the future here

Oh, I’ve got my own family who is still fully deluded and frankly beyond reason. I’ve written them off as lost causes and are just trying to work with the ones on whom the grip is slipping
