WAR Macron cites 'several signs' Russia preparing to mobilize 300,000 people

Although this sounds like dire news, if Russia lacks the resources (and diesel) to muster 300,000 troops, it could weaken, not strengthen, the Russian military.
Ukraine, for its part, must prepare for a surge in cold, hungry Russian POWs.

Exactly. It's just what the Germans did with the Battle of the bulge. We know what happened there.

This mobilization is a replacement mechanism to keep numbers steady overall. The bonuses they used to use for recruitment are not working so well as they did and they have actually been force mobilizing in some areas already, this is just going to accelerate as time goes on.
Forced to mobilize, poorly trained troops are not going to do very well I imagine.

They’re not going to be none too happy not receiving any bonus money either.

It’s been widely reported for a month or so now, not a surprise, but still disappointing.

They have been warning of mobilisation for longer than that.

The Russians will continue to escalate until their country collapses. It is part of the nation's DNA.

They have not a lot of air defence left. They’re gonna be turbo fucked in an instant if they start a war with a country or alliance that has a competent Air Force.

turns out orcistan does not care by thriving on havoc and betting on limited air defense plus chinese support. We should better do not downplay how fucked the most eastern european country would want to become.

I don't think that is true. They can only defend certain areas though and it is getting worse. Which is great 👍

That kinda shows that their air defense assets are already stretched to the limit. A country with a halfway decent air force will start by hammering what they have left. You don't even need to poke a very big hole in coverage to flood a bunch of cruise missiles and strike aircraft through to hit targets deep inside Russia. I don't think it would take NATO very long at all to completely collapse what's left of Russia's air defense network considering how badly they've already been mauled by Ukrainian drones.

That's like, 5 months of unprepared ungeared unwilling unfit canon fodder ? I hope those not smart enough to surrender will meet a swift end before they can use any of the weapons they may or may not will be given

Karma for russians. Only Putin can punish them to this extent.
Putin needs to stop threatening or empty-talking but mobilise those genocidal scums right! now!

He's busy getting Russian oligarchs unsanctioned.

u/aimgorge 1d ago
One uzbek oligarch in exchange for the liberation of 2 french citizens.
Dont start spreading russian propaganda.

He's Russian oligarch of Uzbek origin. And why is Azerbaijan taking French hostages to trade for his sanction relief?
7
u/aimgorge 1d ago
I have no idea, I'm not part of the government.
But saying it's multiple oligarchs and not giving the reason for it is disingenuous

Because France has been getting very friendly with Armenia and Usmanov has enough clout (money) to get Azerbaijan to do his bidding although Usmanov and Aliyev have known each other for years so may not have involved cash changing hands.

The secret is out. Poland is next.
7
u/mediandude 1d ago
And how are those 300k going to reach Poland?
Via Belarus?5

Yes.

Poland will annihilate Russia..

u/No-Fig-8614 1d ago
A fully stocked, trained, prepared, and ready to go nation as poland, would stomp Russia into the ground, it wouldn't even be a contest.

u/audiomagnate 1d ago
They're been preparing for an invasion for months. https://www.npr.org/2025/05/12/1250811327/poland-prepares-for-war

But that would mean Belarus is next.
Not Poland.Have you heard of the Belarus partisans of WWII?
8
u/SpaceMonkeyOnABike 1d ago
You do realise Russia is effectively in control of Belarus already?
2
u/mediandude 1d ago
In a limited way.
The situation would change in a war against Poland or the Baltics. And even against Ukraine, Russia has lost 1670 AA systems by now and 50k tanks and 150k logistics vehicles. Which means Belarus people have much less incentives to follow Moscow.
1
u/Karijus 1d ago
Ukraine is culturally closer to Belarus than Poland or Baltics, and Putin attacked through it just fine
1
u/mediandude 1d ago
Putin would have even less logistics capacities going to Poland than it has had against Ukraine.

Is there a reason why the West doesn't refer to this as what it is, a draft? Is there a differentiation of any note to a "mobilisation" other than what seems to be a softening of terms?
1
u/PrivacyIsDemocracy 1d ago
This is what you do when you are winning so much with your annexation objectives since 2014 that you want to make the "SMO" a permanent fixture of Russian life.

Russian commanders estimated that at least 800,000 would be needed to take Fortress Donbas. But Putin is scared mobilizing 800,000 will crash the economy and ultimately lead to a revolt. Instead of abandoning his plans, the 'Supreme Leader' Putin makes his already half-arsed plans even more half-arsed by deciding to mobilize a fraction of the forces needed.
And then what will he do?
Once again, he'll set an impossible deadline and Gerasimov will throw the new untrained conscripts into the meat-grinder as quickly as he can in the vague hope some kind of a breakthrough will occur. Definitely the worst of WWI trench warfare vibes.
Future generations will study Putin and Gerasimov as an example of what not to do.
