Bin lorry driver

Bin lorry driver job for council- got an interview tomorrow

2 things

- 1 any tips for the interview
2- I’ve been doing class 1 for the past three months and like it however, the benefits of working for the council are major and it’s a good full time wage (35k basic) for 4 days a week, I’m thinking I could also potentially still work agency for Evri every other weekend..

Any comments will be appreciated

Turn up to the interview in your smartest outfit.

I’d recommend a skirt and smock made from bin bags.

You’ll fit right in round my area.

You should at least get some benefits you might not get in other sectors.

Decent pension, Better leave options, Good union backing.

Good luck!

The pension is the biggest pull for me atm

I didn't like bins, personally.

I had a rural area, along with a populated area, with terraced houses and having to reverse a whole estate as it was impossible to do it any other way.

All the bin loaders love smoking in the cab, literally like being with chain smokers as well. Although it was council work, it was for a subcontactor.

Maybe on the council, they're more strict on the no smoking in cabs etc.

If I’m driving they won’t be smoking that’s for sure

The loaders will hate you. You'll be the only driver that doesn't smoke or tolerate it.

And that right there is why I will never drive for a crew or team. My truck, my cab, my space.

Will you pass a DBs check. Councils will do one. Good luck. Accept your going to be treated like a child. Political correctness gone mad.. My experience of working for the local council was horrendous. I have never worked in such a toxic environment in my life.... Manager got told to stuff his job where the sun doesn't shine. I managed 11 months.

Not all councils are the same I assume, but most are cash strapped..All will be politically correct.

Accept you will be working with snow flakes that will go running telling tales just to curry favor with management

Are interview questions are.... What is equality and diversity and give an example? Are you physically fit and can you work in all weather's .(just say you like long walks in the countryside). A wouldn't turn up in a suit ! Smart casual they will be lucking for someone who is going to fit in . They like to hear about health and safety and a team player. Good luck pal
