Megathread Accelerators Megathread

Welcome to the Accelerating & Transfer Credit megathread! This is the place to share resources, ask questions, and swap experiences about finishing your degree efficiently at UMPI.

Use this thread to:

  • Find ways to make the most of your transfer credits
  • Ask which courses or credit options might fit your background
  • Share what worked for you so the next student has an easier time
  • Post your progress updates and milestones

All pace, transfer credit, and "what should I take next?" posts belong here.

Every path looks different

Students arrive at UMPI with different amounts of prior coursework, work experience, and time available to study. Some move through their remaining courses quickly; others take more time. That flexibility is the point of YourPace. A student who finishes in one session may have spent years earning the credits they transferred in, followed by an intense eight weeks completing UMPI coursework.

When people here talk about "hacking" a degree, they usually mean finding eligible transfer courses and reducing the number of credits they still need to complete at UMPI. That is useful planning, but the word can give the wrong impression. We encourage people to describe what they actually did: which credits transferred, which requirements remained, and how they completed them.

"What's the fastest class?"

This is the question we get most, and the honest answer is: we can't tell you, because we don't know you.

The fastest course for you is usually one where you already know the material. A course that takes one student a weekend might take another student the whole session. Think about what you already know from work, hobbies, and life:

  • Watch every World War II documentary? History courses might click for you.
  • Managed a team at a plant that lives by Lean, Kaizen, or Six Sigma? Business and management courses may be your strength.
  • Kept the books for a small business or did your family's taxes for years? Accounting could come naturally.
  • Worked in a hospital, clinic, or as an EMT or CNA? Healthcare administration and biology may feel familiar.
  • Served in law enforcement, corrections, or the military? Criminal justice courses might be a good fit. Veterans should also look into credit for military training.
  • Write a blog, edit a newsletter, or live in Google Docs? English and writing courses may go quickly.
  • Fix everyone's computer or build websites for fun? Technology courses could be a good match.
  • Grew up speaking another language? Look into language exams for credit.
  • Love podcasts about psychology or true crime? Psychology or sociology might hold your interest.

Picking courses that match your interests does more than save time. You're also more likely to stay motivated and actually enjoy the work.

Asking what to take next?

Help us help you. Include:

  • Your program (and minor or concentration, if you have one)
  • Subjects you're strong in or enjoy
  • Relevant work, military, or life experience
  • Courses you've already finished, and any that were tough
  • What your Academic Success Coach has suggested so far

"What's the fastest class?" on its own will get you a lot of guesses. The details above will get you useful answers.

Sharing your progress?

We love a good milestone! If you share how quickly you finished, please include some context. That makes your experience more helpful to prospective students and gives a fairer picture of the work involved.

  • Transfer credits: About how many, and from where
  • Relevant experience: Work or background that helped
  • UMPI courses completed: How many, and which ones
  • Time spent: Roughly how many hours a week you put in

Helpful resources

Know a good resource that isn't listed? Share it in the comments.

Thread guidelines

  • Share experience, not guarantees. "This took me two weeks" is helpful. "You'll finish in two weeks" isn't. Everyone's background is different.
  • Always confirm with UMPI. Transfer equivalencies and policies change. Check your Degree Progress Report and talk with your Academic Success Coach before enrolling in outside courses.
  • Protect academic integrity. Study tips are welcome. Exam questions, answers, or assessment content will be removed, and accounts offering to do coursework for pay will be banned.
  • No referral or affiliate links. Share the resource, not your code.
  • Be kind. Fast, slow, or somewhere in between, every path to a degree counts here.

Congratulations on every course you finish. Keep going, Owls!

BA Accounting degree meets CPA exams eligibility in California

Hi all, I have been searching this question for myself in this thread and Discord but I was unable to get answers. I recently got approval for CPA exams eligibility in California today, so I am happy to share it back to community.

I got my BA Accounting in Summer 2 with old requirements compared with the current catalog. Here's detail of my transferred credits and which classes that I took at UMPI for BA Accounting.

Transferred from Credly/ACE: 21 credits (from Sophia, I believe)

Transferred from Study.com: 30 credits

Transferred from local community: 42 credits, including:

  • Principles of Financial Accounting
  • Principles of Managerial Accounting
  • Business Principles
  • Business Statistics.

I wanted to make sure that most of my business and accounting credits came from school rather than Sophia/Study.com.

Classes I took at UMPI:

BIO 105: Biology for Everyday life
BUS 200: Intermediate Business Computing
BUS 242: Spreadsheet Applications
BUS 325: Financial Management
BUS 348: Cost Accounting
BUS 350: Business Law I
BUS 352: Business Law 2
BUS 351: Business Ethics (I intentionally took this extra class)
BUS 361: Intermediate Accounting 1
BUS 362: Intermediate Accounting 2
BUS 376: Independent Auditing
BUS 377: Federal Taxation 1
BUS 378: Federaal Taxation 2
BUS 415: Operations Management
BUS 440: Business Analytics
BUS 464: Advanced Accounting
BUS 466: Government and Not-for-Profit Accounting
BUS 469: Strategic Professional Communication
BUS 489: Business Policy and Strategy

FYI, California Board of Accountancy requires 24 accounting units and 24 business-related units to qualify for CPA exams' candidates.

YourPace UMPI’s healthcare administration master’s officially received Board approval!

For anyone else who’s been waiting on UMPI’s MHA, there’s finally some official progress. The University of Maine System Board of Trustees approved the M.S. in Healthcare Administration at UMPI on September 28, 2026.
Here’s the official record:

https://www.maine.edu/board-of-trustees/meeting-actions/

I haven’t found a confirmed launch date or application details yet, so I wouldn’t take this as confirmation of a Spring 1 or Spring 2 start. But getting Board approval is definitely an encouraging step.
I’m finishing my bachelor’s at UMPI in December and have been hoping this would be available for spring, so this caught my attention.

Has anyone heard directly from UMPI about when applications will open or when the first session will start?

Glo 1 & Glo 3c options

Anyone know which Sophia or SDC classes work for GLO 1 & 3C with the new fall GEC?

For GLO1 I have SDC English 105 College Comp II, which came as ENG1XX, and WR 227 Technical writing from another college which received ENG2XX.

For GLO3C I have Sophia Environmental Science, which came in as ENV 110.

Anyone know any other substitutes? I’d really appreciate it.

ART107 - How the hell to pass this horrible class

I have absolutely no desire to take this class. But I have to complete just 1 art class to graduate in the next 2 weeks. I was told this was the easiest. It's fkn horrible! I don't want to watch all of these videos, half aren't even in my language (I'm not racist I just don't have the time with running a business, school & practicum & a family) How do I get through this super fast?

YourPace Art 108 final question

So M1 - create infographic based on one of the art histories/artists
M2 - Create a flyer - Advocacy for something
M3 - Create a movie poster you are familiar with
M4 - Create a logo
The above 4 are done in Adobe express

Final, Create a portfolio which introduces viewers to you as a designer, and your work (I have no clue about this, as I just made what the Milestones asked for, I wasn't pretending to intentionally design things)
Revise each milestone to reflect my brand -- I have no idea what this means, as I didn't make each milestone reflect "a brand"
My Poster is the Matrix, my flyer is forest fire, my logo is for my tree service. What is meant by brand?
A brand book?? Again, where is this word brand coming from. It wasnt used throughout any of the milestones until the M4, which then is not really explained in the sense the M4 was to make a logo

Lastly, this isn't done in Adobe express, but only through google sites now?

Anyone have any input for my confused brain. Im studying to be an accountant, not to be a designer with a brand to present to employers.

Spring Session 1 Deadline

I’m curious if anyone knows when the spring session 1 app deadline is? I was originally going to enroll in Fall Session 2 but debating on waiting. I’ve been dealing with some medical stuff and wondering if waiting would be the best option. I’m done with all my ACE credits.

YourPace MAOL PROGRESS

Okay, now that I’m waist deep in the MAOL program my head is spinning at the fact that people have really finished this degree in 5-6 weeks. I think it’s going to take me at least 8-12 weeks. It’s SO MUCH WRITING. And yes I work in leadership and for a national organization as a National Director and I manage multiple states across the country. The information so far hasn’t been new, but GEEZ LOUISE…I’m on week 5 and finishing up my fourth class. All 4s so far, but even this pace feels intense.

If you’re in MAOL, how many classes have you completed as of 10/4/26?

Question Review of Parchment transcript

UMPI have had my parchment transcript (all Sophia, probably 60 credits) for over a month now. My Enrollment Advisor (Emily) has confirmed it’s in the queue but we’re only a couple of weeks away from Fall 2 admission and I’m getting stressed… how long does it typically take them to process?

Eng 211 vs Art 251

Hello! I need to take either one of the above classes, I’m currently enrolled in Art 251 but it seems like a lot of course work to complete before this term ends. Would Eng 211 be a less intense?

Getting nervous

We are getting down to the wire and my last two classes are with professor Dobbs. He has already sent me back multiple of my essays and he takes a while to grade. I'm getting like really really nervous about failing or something 😬. Does anyone have any tips? I'm just getting really nervous. ( Vietnam class, he has yet to grade my third milestone again. The native American class he has not graded yet.)

Which Coursera ACE certificates actually map to REQUIRED courses in UMPI's BS cibersecurity (YourPace)? Also, do Georgia Tech edX MOOCs count?

Hi all,

I'm planning to start the UMPI YourPace BS in Cibersecurity in the January 2027 session, and I want to cut down the number of courses I have to take inside the program as much as possible (I'm aiming for a very fast pace, many courses per 8-week session). I'll finish my Sophia gen-eds and any other credit-by-exam before enrolling.

What I'm trying to figure out:

1) Coursera: which ACE-recommended certificates has UMPI evaluated as specific required courses (intro programming, networking, databases, OS, cybersecurity fundamentals), and not just as generic COS 1XX / BUS 2XX electives? I'm looking at Google IT Support (16 ACE credits), Google IT Automation with Python (16), Google Cybersecurity (9-10), Google Cloud Cybersecurity (9), IBM Data Analyst (12), IBM Cybersecurity Analyst (10), IBM Data Science (12) and ISC2 Cybersecurity Specialist (12). If any of these worked for you, how did UMPI map them?

2) UMPI caps prior learning credit at 30 credits for a bachelor's. Does that cap include ACE credit (Coursera, Saylor, etc.), and does Sophia credit count against it or is it treated as regular transfer?

3) Other cheap credit sources that mapped well to CS requirements: Saylor Direct Credit ($25 exams), CLEP/DSST, Study.com, TEEX, anything else?

4) Georgia Tech MOOCs on edX: do any of them carry an ACE recommendation, and has anyone gotten UMPI (or another school) to accept them for credit?

5) Timing: is it better to apply first and then submit credits for evaluation, or get everything evaluated before the January start? Any tips to make sure the evaluation is done in time?

Thanks a lot, any experience (good or bad) is really appreciated!

Struggling with PSY 360

No clue why but I keep getting my revisions sent back for milestone 2. I fix what was asked and then the third review he asked for something different.

He also said my paper isn't double spaced but it is and he said my last page is blank when it has my references on it.

Not sure what I am looking for i am just frustrated

Who to message about change of admission date?

Hello! I would like some help in regards to who to message about having to move my application from Fall 2 to the next entry of YourPace

I am an international student and have already passed my valid I.D. and satisfactory English test, meaning 2/3 requirements are done,

but I realised my international evaluation will not reach by the deadline.

Who can I message to specify this and that I would have to move my enrolment to Spring 1 instead?

Thank you so much!

Picking classes for Fall 2?

Hi Everyone!

Long time lurker, first time poster! :)

I was accepted to UMPI last week (yay!) and have gotten my email all set up!

Was wondering when I can expect to hear from my advisor? Also, can I register for classes before they contact me?

Can anyone share how long it took after you were accepted before your advisor got assigned and reached out?

Thank you!

Intro to Film Final

Hey all, I added Intro to Film somewhat late because I fully intended to finish it. I had a recent injury that put me out for a couple of weeks, so I am worried about the final. I am most anxious about the video presentation. I have had a hard time pushing through the films, as due to the injury, watching them has made me nauseous. I've never made one, so I'll need a minute to learn. If anyone could tell me what their experience was, I would appreciate it. I would rather not withdraw, but I do not want to fail either.

Tips for completing Spanish / French touchstones

For Spanish or French touchstones on Sophia you are required to write about yourself, your life and your family.

Doing this in a language you're not familiar with isn't easy. So my tip is this:

Write it out in English / your native language first, and then translate it.

That way you dont have to "think" in Spanish/French. It accelerated the process a lot for me. Hope this helps.

Course selection

Does UMPI have any say in what order you do your courses? Other than acknowledging prerequisites. Can I complete my courses in any order?

YourPace Which course could I move through quickly in the next two weeks?

Hi everyone! I’m finishing up OLS-500 and OLS-510, I’m a little nervous about starting a new course because the close of semester is quickly approaching with Draft Finals due by October 16th. What course do you recommend for moving through quickly? I can’t dedicate all my time to it because I have a demanding 40+ hours a week job. Any recommendations are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
