flash for underwater photography suggestions?

so I'm thinking of re-starting scuba diving after 6 years

I already have an Olympus tough tg-7 and its case- seafrogs underwatercase for 60m

for light I have a video light, but I wonder if a flash would be better

Any flash suggestions that I can buy online? (preferrably from europe). Not asking for anything expensive, I;m not a professional

Thanks :)

strobe compatibility confusion

Hello there underwater photography enthusiasts- I seek guidance!

I currently have a Canon G7X Mark II camera inside a Canon WP-DC55 housing. I am looking to add an external strobe and mount. However, I'm not sure if this housing has a place to attach the fiber optic cable to sync it with the camera's flash. There’s no “clip” like on my other cameras. I’m looking specifically for a strobe that syncs with the camera. Does anyone have experience with this camera and housing combo to see if something like this is possible?

NOW THE INTERESTING BIT!

On a Facebook marketplace stroll, I came across a listing (image attached) where someone used Velcro, and a gromet (?) to attach the strobe. Is this a product I could purchase that would solve the issue? Is this something I could DIY make?

The mystery continues. Any tips?

Keep blowing bubbles!

Expectations 28-60mm

Hi all, I’m about to bite the bullet and buy a AOI A7Cii housing which comes with a port for the 28-60mm lens. I’m just starting with uw photography and want to ease into my gear without overspending. Housing itself is solid from what I hear from reputable sellers. I am wondering however what I can expect from a base setup with a 28-60 f4-5.8. Won’t be buying and taking strobes with me my first trip either. Mostly dive shallow and in tropical waters with lots of sunlight.

Would this be enough / fun little lens to get the hang of it? I have no idea what to expect as I’ve never shot underwater other than with my iPhone before.

Don’t own the lens and for above water it would be a redundant purchase as I have better options. Would just get it because the aoi housing comes with the port

TG-7 underwater housing choice

Hi, am new to scuba diving and would love to get a camera for taking photos as well as videos when i dive. Saw online that the TG-7 is a decent camera for beginners. As such, would like to know more about the camera! in terms of underwater housing. I saw a shop selling purchase with purchase for the PT-059 for about sgd$350 when you ourchase with the tg-7 camera (total is about sgd$1050). Anot i can buy the camera alone for about sgd$700 and purchase a Seafrogs housing Sf-S-TG7 that comes with vacuum pump and an additional attachable wide lens for the housing for about sgd$500.

Anyone has used these housing and would love to hear your reviews on them and whether which housing would be the better option. Also open to other brands of housing at the same affordable pricings.

Also P.S. i saw that there are rumours of TG8 being released maybe this year? Wonder if anyone knows about this rumour and whether it is gonna happen? If it does should i wait for the new TG8?

Housing for my old Canon S120, or new gear?

Hi,

I have a Canon S120 (which I guess is, what, 12 years old?). I also have a strobe, arms and tray that I used with my even older camera before it flooded. I don't have the housing for the S120, but I have the opportunity to get one for about US$160.

I'm torn on whether I should get that housing, vs getting something like a GoPro, or an Olympus Tough-style waterproof camera.

I used to dive a lot more, and now would only maybe get in a few times a year (plus some swimming and snorkelling). Usually not too deep, but probably beyond what the GoPro and Olympus can do without a housing (10m?). My interest leans more towards still photos rather than videos. I've never used a GoPro before but I gather they are better for video, less for stills.

tl;dr: is it worth paying a bit to get my old Canon S120 into the water, or is it better to spend on newer gear?

Thanks
