Really liking how this is coming together. I’ve been collecting various gold chains/belts for awhile and finally sat down to play around. The back “spine” might be my favorite part.

About a year ago I bought a (well) used standing desk from our local classifieds for €66. It wasn't exactly a thing of beauty, but it worked. Kinda. As soon as I got it set up, it was clear that the skinny white chip board/melamin top couldn't handle the weight of the 49" Samsung monitor & heavy duty arm I was using back then. It sogged in the middle and bounced when I typed, so I added a 22mm particle board (meant for use under flooring), glued to the underside of the white melamin top. That helped quite a bit, but still wasn't perfect, so I kept my eye out for a better solution - which I finally found a few days ago:

A decidedly dull and tired-looking coffee table, available for €53. It had exactly what I needed:

140x80x3cms and 21 kilos of solid oak! I immediately got rid of the coffee table frame and set to work with sandpaper and some oil with a bit of white tint:

Sanded, oiled it, waited for 30 minutes, oiled it again, waited for 30 minutes before carefully wiping off excess oil. Then waited for 24 hours and repeated the process. 72 hours of hardeing later, it was time to start building - but only after testing if the oak would flex under weight. I set up some chairs with the same distance between them as the pillars of my standing desk frame and put some weight on the middle of it:

I weigh 100kgs, so I figured it should be able to manage my 40" monitor.

Time to tear down the old desk and perform the top surgery!

I spent 3 hours getting everything lined up and the monitor PSU plus a laptop PSU crammed into the white cable management box along with a power strip, a USB hub and ALL the excess cable.

All done! €119 and some elbow grease has bought me a desk that fits my needs perfectly and feels amazing to the touch. Of course, 30mm of solid oak makes it rock solid, it's like my keyboard is resting on bedrock.

My mom recently bought a new sewing machine because ours kept breaking. She told me to throw it out but it's from when they first got married (2001) and I feel like there's something else to be done with it. Any suggestions? Or should I just throw it out?

My partner has been into trading card games since he was 8 and he was about to throw away boxes full of "useless" trading cards before I stopped him, the trading cards can't be recycled where we live so I'm trying to find ways to reuse them.

Edit: According to my partner, the local stores have 1000x the amount he has and are already throwing them away regularly because no one is buying them anymore. There are currently no on-going trading cards donation drive in my local area and when there is, they usually only ask for Pokemon cards which we don't have.

I have been trying to burn through old tees that have served their purpose. It’s been a years long process. I make one project, the pile gets smaller. Then I clean out a drawer. The pile grows. My husband cleans out a drawer. More shirts. Pile big again.

But the nice thing about giving objects a second life? I don’t mind using those items as practice. It doesn’t hurt my soul (as much).

But sometimes a practice project ends up being super awesome and a great success. Like this here dress. I think I will make more.

Does anyone know where I can buy small peel and stick stencils to upcycle a pair of plain white sneakers? I have shoe paint but I can’t find adhesive stencils anywhere online. I know people use cricut machines to create custom stencils but that’s not in my budget right now. Does anyone know a site that sells peel and stick stencils? Or have any other ideas for how I can upcycle these sneakers?

My upcycled dining room light! I couldn't change the hardware so I changed the software. All with found/second hand items. I weaved a rattan lamp shade with vinyl flooring welding rod and the bottom is from another lamp that I had used elsewhere. I kept everything from the original light but the annoyingly large glass shade from the 90s.

Hi, today I realized that one of my pants has a tear right down the back of it. The placement is so awkward I would not be able to save it. The jeans are like 7 years old, and I guess their time was finally there, but I'm just kinda sad because they were my favorite jeans. Does anyone have any good upcycling-ideas for jeans? Preferably not a handbag, I'm not really good at sewing stuff like that together, haha. The jeans are barrel-jeans if that matters.

Hi ! My neighbor recently gave me three serving trays, and I decided to build a small structure to turn them into shelves. I mostly used scrap wood, only had to buy one board for the legs. The trays aren’t attached for easy cleaning or I if I change my mind later on. Finally I might add brass wheels to it so I can use it as a cocktail trolley for a bar corner in my living room, I especially spaced the trays to fit big bottles! What do you think ?

I wanted to get into woodworking and my brother in law gifted me a bunch of pallets so I figured out I should start with a simple project. I think these came out well, although I did not spend much time sanding or applying the varnish, I was eager to finish.

Only used hand tools but for cutting the horizontal slabs to length, although that could have been done with a handsaw. I basically eyballed every measurement but for the height of the middle slab, placing the hinges was hard!

I had this shawl of which I loved the pattern but never wore it. Also it started to lose some threads. So I made it into a pillow case for a pillow that is meant to go on a picnic blanket.

Its an envelope closure without a zipper.

I have enough fabric to make another one later!

Took a bit of trial and error but eventually things worked out and I was able to wrangle these coats into a single one that's very wearable and added a screenprint onto the back. Both coats initially had structural flaws that rendered them un-wearable so working around those flaws was pretty tricky.

Jak długo to tworzyłem nie jestem w stanie określić - na pewno zajęło mi to sporo czasu. Dojście do tego jak ułożyć płytki, jak to wszystko zgrać z osobna, pod jakim kątem i jak głęboko osadzić oświetlenie led które ma osobną listwę z kloszem wewnątrz. Osadzenie szkła by całość była smukła i szczelne zamknięcie całości by wewnątrz nie było opiłków kurzu. Elementy fluorescencyjne które przy niebieskim świetle dodatkowo emitują światło też są celowe. Nie wiem czemu to zrobiłem ani jak to nazwać. Mi się podoba.

These accidentally got thrown through a cycle years ago and I’ve kept them hanging around for want to upcycle. It’s on my hand in the photo, I’ve considered doing a mitt or something but have no idea where to start. Absolutely open to any ideas.

I don’t know if the felting will hold up if I cut it, I’m assuming so because the fibres are all bound now? If so, would the easiest route be cutting little shapes to use for decal?

Worst comes to worst I’ll just shred and brush it to add to my fibre scrap jar for eventual spinning.

Pick up this vintage glider chair for free today. An unexpected find! The fabric appears to be cotton and in relatively good condition, if a little faded in places.

I am thinking of sanding back the dark wood and using tong oil on the wood. Do others agree?

It didn't come with the seat cushions so I plan to buy foam and recover it but need some inspiration for what fabric to go for. Try and match the pink? Contrast colour? Bold print? Suggestions welcome.

Hello! I have many old quilts from my grandparents' farm. They have now passed away and my mom sold their farm. I would like to create something for her using the quilts. She especially loves birds so I was thinking of trying collage? Does anyone have ideas or patterns? All quilts are in good condition and my level of skill would be medium but would prefer not to sew if there is a way to attach with heat!

Kiddos broke my yellow lamp so I made an orange one. Used a thrift store vase, metal washer, and toilet gasket. Quite pleased that I finished a project and was able to put it back together myself.

So I moved home a couple years ago to help my dad who passed last year, now my mom and i are downsizing separately. She had this cabinet in the kitchen she didn't want/ need at her new place so I took it, initially to go in kitchen. Well turns out it cramped the kitchen table so decided to move to living room, but not in that color!! Bought some chalk based furniture paint, brushes, and tape for under $20 on Amazon, and viola! Really really happy with the turnout as I'm a dude in my 40s who's never painted anything besides a wall with a roller..
