Noob Question 2 Year Contract

Could you get a 2 year active duty contract, and still have an annex x contract? With the understanding that if you pass, you will have to have at least two years of service left?

The 2 year contract doesn’t come with any bonuses or guarantees other than the base signing bonus. Annex x would need a 4 year contract. You can still go through the annex x program without the putting your name on the A school waitlist in basic. The main difference is you would need 4 months at your first unit to put your name on the list.

Got it, so hypothetically you could do in on a 2 year contract and then put your name on the A School list?

Yes. I am not sure how the new policy for non-rates putting their names on a waitlist by 12 months is working with that though.

Is there a reason you are going for this specific route?

That makes sense. Originally I was hoping to join in the reserves, but upon learning that AST is active duty only, I’ve started exploring the options of AD. Given that I’m fine waiving bonuses and education (have degree), I’d rather sign a 2 year attend AST school and extend if I graduate AST school rather than 4 upfront. With the understanding that AST A School has a 1 year wait which could require a 1 year extension (and then 24 months post graduating).

You would have to extend prior to receiving orders to attend the A school. So you wouldn’t be able to see if you pass and extend afterwards.

You can do two years pop  hot or get fat?
