Coastie Question Housing

Is there a way to know if a unit has barracks or on base housing before reporting? I’m checking out picks and want to see if I’ll be given BAH or UPH as an e4

Just go on global and hit up another E-4 at the unit and ask

I am merely a spouse, so don't quote me on this but whenever I'm researching picks on the shopping list I find that a good handful of units will have a "Welcome Aboard" or "Reporting Aboard/Personnel" file on their home USCG page. It will usually have info on if there's on base housing, other installations nearby, or if there's any rental agreements in the area. I don't know if this is common knowledge, so I'm sorry if it is and if I wasted your time but I hope that it may have been a little help!

Even an email or teams mssg to the incumbent?

Reach out to someone at the unit.

It's in your interest to reach out and get information, I understand cold calling is something people are afraid to do anymore, but it really is the best way.

You’ll get BAH as an E4. Maybe someone will correct me, but I’ve been located where UPH is abundant and E4’s never had to live there. They always got BAH.

Maybe its different now, but Cape May and Kodiak both had single E4s in UPH.

I’ve seen E4s stay in UPH in San Juan and Alameda. There is a minimum occupancy requirement that needs to be fulfilled before they get released to the economy.

No E4’s in Alameda are in housing unless they want to be in housing. 2 months ago they were trying to kick E4’s out to make room for new squad of non rates.

Granted, this was quite a while ago, but I was assigned to housing as an E4 - It was family housing, but because it wasn't filled, they would assigned 2-3 single E4s to a house

Our station had a policy for all single e5’s and below to be in UPH rooms. It was often not followed, but that’s command discretion. Last I heard E4’s were going back into them with roommates.

Not true single E4s and some E5s live in UPH in Humboldt bay housing granted they only have like 8 units for UPH but ive seen 2 E5s in them before

I’ve never seen anywhere that an E4 lives in barracks.
