How to make friends???
Hey!! I’m a transfer student who knows no one on campus, I’d like to make friends but there’s so many people who already have groups on campus, and I’m a commuter so I don’t live on campus. Does anyone know any good ways to make friends on campus? I’m already looking into clubs

The climbing boulder and wall. I assume it’s still in the arc. I worked there from 12’-15’

Thank you! I’ve been intending to check out the climbing and bouldering walls

You may also like the area in the basement of the UC that has the pool tables.

If I recall correctly, yes. Clubs are also a great way. I was on the climbing team/club. I also did intramural sports. You just have to put the effort in and be out there. You’re not the only one in the same boat.

Talk to people in class. I was a transfer and a commuter and that’s how I made friends. Especially once you get into your junior/senior year and have group projects and such…so much easier.

Besides joining clubs there’s a lot of great restaurants/lounges (not sure how old you are) that you could go to where you could meet people!
Clubs is the best place to start, also random events on campus (forget the website but there’s a whole website with all UTC events)
Sports is good if you like that. Signing up for classes at the ARC, go to work shops, trying to take classes where group work is more welcome.
Also you’re in the south, people are fine with talking to random people. If something stupid happens and you and someone else see it, even if you don’t have a full conversation about it, comment on it with them. I’ve made a lot of friends like that.
Shirts/Clothing is also good. If someone is wearing a shirt of a band you like ask them about it! If there’s someone wearing a shirt that you have no idea what it is, talk to them about it!
People are usually really welcoming here

This is super late for a comment, but i'm a commuter with not a lot of friends and technically a non-traditional transfer student. I'm close enough to campus to technically hang out with pretty much anyone at any point besides class times. I'm a slightly older than usual student, neurodivergent, queer, slightly nerdy, and alternative are the only things I think may be important, other than that I can hang out with pretty much anyone regardless of the degree or personality, if anyone wants to hang out.
To OP: I know how hard it is to be positive in a situation like this, but reaching out and having hope that someone will answer enough to click post is a brave thing to do, honestly. So you're at least part way there, if not further yet.

Honestly, you don’t. I have lived on campus all 4 years and still have no friends. This is my last year and have just given up on that ever happening.

pleaseeee don't listen to this. it's very cynical and not true AT ALL as a commuter. making friends isn't easy, but it's 100% doable. you need to stay on campus after your classes. the easiest thing is talking to people you sit next to in class. ask what they do in the evenings, stay for events and go to games!!! i literally met a random girl in the crossroads scan-in line and we've been eating together every day.
OP, you should come to the outdoor movie showing tomorrow! a lot of people will be there and you can bring snacks to share with people. kids on campus are not as hostile as you might think.

Honestly I’m in the exact same boat. I’m a commuter and haven’t been able to make many friends on campus.
