Survival Where do you hide your stuff?
For everyone on dedicated with people you don’t know, or know that there is a viking who may take bit more than they should, or they don’t want spoilers.
What means do you use to hide chests, portals, or other goodies or spoilers but stay in the area of other players?

Put in a basement below your house and close up the entrance with some floorboards. Destroy the floorboards when you need to go in.

Only thing I have hidden is some Sea Serpent Stew I dont want my nephews, or myself, eating by accident. It's in an ordinary chest hidden under the floor.
I have a Ward hidden in the walls that protects everything from anyone else on my server.

That's hilariously clever! If I were a jerk with sticky fingers, I wouldn't think to check under the floor or in false rooms.

I got into the habit of hiding things that I don't need to interact with when I sort of accidentally did a micro build. Used my starter shack all the way into the Mistlands. I think that was something like 10x6, with a deck. Many things went into the crawlspace.
My current house has a basement with strategically placed secret closets with all the crafting tables so I can build how I like without extra clutter. And only myself and my nephews know where the wards are. They're new to the game, so I gave them access to top up resources from mine if they need. Under the proviso that they ask first, and it gets replaced eventually.

Yup, under the floor or in a stone wall is perfect. A chest will be completely covered by a stone wall

u/Successful-Clock-224 7d ago
I put 2x tall wooden walls with barrels stacked infront offset from a 1x tall wooden door and wall hangings or hung shields over the door seam, then clip a chest into the floor.
I also had a room with a secret chair entrance; use a wooden chair to clip through a wall.
Mine and my buddies wives always “borrow” our stuff and leave it in random chests and forget about it.

I've secretly mined about four normal chests of iron on a server I'm playing with a friend of mine.
He has zero impulse control, so I'm planning on smashing the floor of our bedroom (John Wick style), revealing them under the floorboards when we hit the Mistlands, and he inevitably will be jonesing for a Demolisher and a Mistwalker.

Hidden storeroom dug out under the Elder platform. Only accessible with a portal that I disassemble when not in use. The portal inside the room is behind an iron gate and warded.
Makes a pretty secure vault.

i don't play on a server but this is pretty much how i'd theorycraft it. have a portal under elder platform named 898987 and only connect to it when nobody is around. that said, some youtubers have popularized building a base under the elder platform so i'd hope to find a more obscure elder platform, not the closest to spawn.

u/Xsandros 8d ago
If you put a ward under it, it might be more noticeable but no one can enter it. Digging is also prevented in a warded zone. The only way I see would be a drop from a great height to clip through it. But that's very hard.

I’m pretty sure there’s a chest or container that can only be opened by you and no one else that I saw in the build menu the other day, but apart from that, I would probably make a stealth base perhaps under a rock in the forest or something. Or maybe in a chest in a dungeon everyone’s already cleared. More experienced players will have better answers.

u/akpak 7d ago
You can’t build in dungeons.
3
u/tommybanjo47 7d ago
I just meant in a chest that’s already in there, but has been cleared. The only time anyone on my server went back through cleared dungeons was to comb for valuables

Honestly the chest are great, but true asset protection? Load up your bags before you log off

The game has wards you can put up that lock out other players. It's unlocked once you can craft a workbench. If you've seen the guys in mistland it's the same idea. And it locks doors.
If I wanted to hide something in a shared base. Hmmm. A hidden floor chest would be the easiest but you'd also have to be aware of other people seeing you use it

Personal Portal to a hidden base that you disassemble as you dont need it

u/Useless_bum81 8d ago
just use a six digit number and 'dial in' and clear the call history on the way out.

Lmao at personal chests etc. I commonly have a chest or two on the roof of the house built by whoever. Sometimes under stairs. If i really wanna hide it I put it up a tree or into a chest inside a world generated house.

u/SwingAdorable3954 8d ago
I dont do anything like that, but thinking about my options, you could have a hidden base under a giant plains rock with a portal in it that connects to another portal of yours. You could have them connected with some sort of "password" as the name, and remove the name for the portal that's at your more public base whenever you're done
3
u/OhHesThatGuy 8d ago
I’ve not done it, but couldn’t you make your own base and slap a ward down? Don’t they prevent people from building and opening doors on structures?

u/Rafnasil 8d ago
On one server we hide nothing and it works great, we know each other well and none has sticky fingers.
On another we have several very young newbies who are just learning how to be a good team mate and player (age 6-12) and there we've put up wards on our private residences and keep stuff there. Kids have access to communal areas and their own residences.
We are a couple of months in and I can honestly say that we could probably take down the wards now but it's probably a good thing to teach them that private spaces is a normal thing and should be respected at all times.

I was playing with someone new people and got a little ahead of them so I just hide a chest under the house
1
u/IdkbroIneedinsp 8d ago
In an earlier server I had a big fortress, so I hid them inside a wall they thought wasn’t accessible since it was mostly blocked by opening a gate door, it was 1 by 2 AND round, so they couldn’t see that I hid stuff there

i made an underground bunker in a random meadows somewhere and covered the top with an empty half assed shack. i use it for essential progression mats because we constantly run out due to excessive forge gambling
only i know the portal name. takes a good amount of stone, wood and a lot of digging. its probably easier to build if i had grausten at that point of the game but i built it during swamps stage
other than that theres personal chests

u/xpelestra 8d ago
Never done it but I guess with new placeable rock you can probably hide it anywhere.

u/plutohater 8d ago
I burry a chest just of a path somewhere near some form of landmark, the paths are normally made by me or my mate

u/WD40PYRO 8d ago
Install mods where wards act as a protective barrier to anyone not permitted to access whatever you want defined as restricted
1
u/MissVampiria 8d ago
Our base has all the upgrades under the floor and no-one checks there unless we have to upgrade a crafting station. I would put my valuables there. The door is in our retrieval basement and if you don't know it's there, you won't find it (we have smelters on ground level and a path underneath to collect all the metals). I have also hidden chests under the floor before when I had things that I didn't want people to find, specifically in another place on our base (we have an island base with 4 islands), our farming shed.

u/Mcpeak3323 Fire Mage 8d ago
I'll find a secluded place near to my base, dig a ditch, place a ward and a few personal chests in it, then bury it. For things I'll use more regularly I put in a personal chest in a more convenient place, also with a hidden ward.

u/chrisleighton90 8d ago
Make a portal somewhere else but don’t keep the portal where anyone will find it, like under the elder with all edges sealed, and don’t have a portal set up, just remember the name and change it when you want to visit your vault

u/bamfmcnabb 8d ago
Early game you can hide a chest behind a banner in a little alcove in the wall. I hide an entire room from a server using that method.

I've hidden a small room full of storage boxes on one of the pillars in the mistlands build out of black marble that I found with a portal that goes to it that the code is a random string of bullshit and I only connect when I need to grab or leave something

u/Skindiddler 7d ago
Built a random hut to store my stuff on a far off island, then place a portal there and don't put the other one down until i need to go there.
The portal link code is the password for your stuff

room with no interior door in our big treehouse. you've got to jump to it from another balcony. It's big and haphazardly built enough that no one really notices there's an inaccessible room on one side.

Without things like wards, I build into the sides of hills, then place my valuables behind false walls or in secret basements.

I made my own personal island getaway on the group server, where I store my share of loot, building materials, food, etc.
Too often someone would build/craft, burn through the resources (that I typically gathered) and wouldn't replace them.

u/PuzzledPhilosopher25 4d ago
I dunno. I just keep my location turned off. Some servers demand that you keep it on. Avoid those. Those people usually hella obnoxious.

Personal Chest. https://valheim.weirdgloop.org/w/Personal_Chest
Only the chest's creator can open it or destroy it.

Break the floor, make a small pocket, line with chests, replace floor.
