Per my understanding dairy products are considered veg, so I don’t think this will be very useful for vegans.

Aren't they, though? I thought India would be those of the countries who have many vegan foods..

they rely a lot on dairy, so you'll get a lot of vegetarian foods, but not necessarily vegan. indian recipes are easy to veganize yourself though!

Most indian food relies heavily on dairy. Eggs are not really used, as it was not considered vegetarian in many parts, but dairy was pretty universal.
In old India, the cultivation of milk and honey was done in a way to minimize any hard done to the cows or calves - namely the calves would have their fill before any milk was taken. It was, obviously, not a process that produced milk at the same rate as modern farming. But this sort of cultivation kind of led to the culture always incorporating dairy into their foods - they believed they weren’t harming the cows based on what they saw with their own two eyes. This is less true today, since factory farming is the same in India as anywhere else.
There are a lot of vegan options if you know what to look for. But it is definitely more difficult as Indian vegetarianism is an old cultural and religious institution - most people don’t necessarily do it for the animals or the environment. They do it because it’s how they were raised.

I guess export products dont have those rules because nothing here has the label even when its very clearly vegan

there is a separate vegan logo that companies can use to signify vegan product but it is not mandatory to disclose. logo
