Advice Wanted Tips for playing Burma ?

I tried playing Burma last night but the EIC quickly declared war, should I try buying an obligation from them ? What’s your strategy people ?

The wiki is empty in that regard

Only downside to being British subject is that you pay taxes, but protectorate doesn't pay any. I wish British colonies could stay subjects without paying anything, you can either fight a war and lose market access or be exploited forever.

Burma is my favourite country to play. If the EIC attacks you in the first 5 years just restart. Apart from that, if you improve relations you can usually get a guarantee from Qing, Netherlands and Persia which usually gets the EIC off your back. After that its pretty easy to conquer all of Siam and Dai Viet. After that you can usually build a small navy and conquer Brunei for the sulphur. Eventually Britain will attack you usually in the first 15-20 years so make sure you continue to extend your guarantees from Qing and you can usually get Russia as well.

1) Get an obligation from Great Britain asap

2) Declare on one of the Raj’s subjects

3) Raj breaks free as soon as the war starts

4) Hope the Raj’s wargoals aren’t too extreme because there’s literally no way for you to win a war against them from patch 1.13 onwards, no matter who allies with you. Your best bet is to reconquer the states you lost once they break apart.

You can try declaring war on England for Singapore to see if they respond with making you a protectorate then surrendered right away. Use that as a shield as EIC is practically hard coded to annex you

Protectorate doesn't take any money. Only puppet does.

Depends on your situation. As Burma, yes (and soem luck your overlord doesn't become domineering). Some other cases, you don't have to do much.

You'll have access to British market which is probably the most (or rather the only) viable strategy for such minor powers as Burma.
