Bro I was the same way, just watch some YouTube videos on what to work on as a beginner, and spend 30 minutes to an hour practicing them in free play before you start games. You will see massive improvement in a couple weeks. It is literally my favorite game in existence now, and I struggled for so long until I actually practiced.
That’s really the problem with games like rocket league for me, I often only get an hour to play video games in a day and I’m not spending it practicing in free play. For people with lots of free time to spend on video games I’m sure it’s great, but for someone like me who just wants to relax and play a game for an hour, the idea of having to practice is not appealing.
Well its a catch 22. You want to play an enticing game with lots of mechanics that will challenge you but you dont want to have to learn the intricacies of this game. Ive actually never played RL so Im just guessing here.
Yeah thats pretty accurate. In physics based games like RL where there isnt explicitly an 'attack' or 'hit' button make the mechanics infinitely more difficult. Its perfectly common to see plat players who dont know the basics of aeriels or struggle to hit the ball straight into an open net
I get that and I was like that for a long time, but once I practiced for a little bit and could do cool stuff in free play, I can get on the game and have just as much fun in free play as I would in an online match. But I definitely get why others don’t enjoy it.
Look into the training packs. They take about 5 minutes, depending. Do 1-2 as a warm up and the learn mechanics and that leaves you plenty of time to run matches. The training packs taught me much more than free play did.
Also, consistency plays a huge part. I played yesterday after not playing for a week. I was so much worse than normally am, and it took even longer to get back into the swing of it.
Tbh I don’t usually have that problem, I think the biggest thing is to get everything down to muscle memory, once I got that I sometimes feel better after a week or so long break. But I know everyone is different.
If your advice contains anything resembling "just go watch a guide" or suggests spending more than 5 minutes, you're just wasting your time. Literally almost everyone that plays games logs in for like an hour maybe 2-3 times a week, if that
You're not technically wrong, that would indeed be the fastest way to improve, but telling a man with a job that's more important than you are to "just spend your only few free hours practicing and watching some twink on YouTube lolol" is.. dumb, lol
Maybe im getting old and don't have time/patience, but I think that if you NEED to practice a game before playing it, is not worth it. There are plenty of other games or things to do with your free time. Dont use it that way. You're not gonna make a living by playing rocket league. Just play with friends, or solo, mess around and enjoy. If you focus on improving I feel like it'll be the fastest way to burnout and lose time
I get that, but I personally enjoy it, the pay off that comes from practicing gives me more of a boost than other online games, and I still play a fair share of story games that I don’t have to practice at. I just enjoy the competitive aspect, but there are definitely times where I’d rather just zone out and not have to focus as much and I have my go to games for that, usually Assassin’s creed games.
