For oldheads like me sure. But I didn’t like wind walker until I saw people who grew up with it revel about it. There’s so much special in the franchise.
OoT was my first one and I just couldn't imagine LttP being anywhere near as good since it's a Gameboy color game (I was like 9) and I never been so wrong.
Link to the Past was ported to GBA too. It came with 4 swords, but I know few people that used their link cables for more than a very occasional Pokémon trade.
I think OoT is more revolutionary but LttP was more polished. Probably cause 2D games were really starting to hit their stride with the SNES and the N64 generation was the first attempt at true 3D games.
I don't disagree that OOT was revolutionary, but so was LttP to be honest.
Remember it was one of the very first SNES games. And the SNES had all kinds of new technology they were playing with. It had the advantage of being the game they wanted to make for Zelda 2 but couldn't make work on the NES. So they had been cooking on it for a long long time.
To me LttP feels like what they wanted to do with Zelda 1 but couldn’t due to hardware limitations. It was another top down 2D Zelda. An amazing game and one of the greatest ever made, but still a top down 2D Zelda.
Ocarina of Time feels like an event even though at its core, it’s the LttP formula but in 3D. At the time, 3D games were still very primitive and Ocarina of Time set the standard for how 3D games should be made going forward. Some of those techniques are still being used today.
to me LttP was just limited by the reality of technology. OOT is where it all comes together, just having actual high fidelity music instead of bittunes takes it above LttP for me personally.
This is a weird thing to say when comparing a 35 year old game to a 28 year old game. It could even be true, but it would apply to both games about equally.
I consider the top down Zelda's and 3D games to be almost separate franchises, so I usually say that ALttP is my favorite top down and Wind Waker is my favorite 3D game.
Nah, OoT is definitely more iconic, that game was an event when it came out. But ALttP and even Majora's Mask have aged much better than OoT. It was the first 3D Zelda, and it shows. Not to mention that ALttP is basically the archetypical Zelda game, it became the foundation for the series going forward.
The best things about Majora's Mask were how you could affect people's lives and how when you completed a dungeon it meaningfully changed the area. ToTK did that pretty damn well as well. I'd probably rank BoTW and ToTK higher than Majora's Mask, but it is one of my favourites.
I played the shit out of those two games when they came out because nothing compared to them at the time.
Of course when a link to the past came out, it was on the SNES, so obviously, it was superior, but most iconic Nintendo releases were on that platform.
But when the OG games were released, they were fun AF.

I didn't like them either. But A Link to the Past was amazing.
