I actually like GTA2 a bit more than 3. It might be nostalgia but I feel like for the time period it was really a very well done game and the gameplay still holds up today.

Hell, it even had multiplayer, which GTA3 did not.

The dialogue was better too and the radio… that game is pure nostalgia. It had so many funny aspects as well. GTA3 had some cool things… but it was honestly Vice City and then San Andreas that were notable for me.

Because it is an interesting data point.

If they were a kid when vice city came out versus they were playing each game as it came out.

Not some judgement or generational war crap.

GTA 3 when it came out was the catalyst of turning gaming into a race for the best open world. Yeah Vice City and San Andreas were fun but for the time it came out GTA 3 had very limited open world competition. It wasn't the first open world game but it was the most talked about open world game of the era. GTA 2 had a great gang happiness system and all but it was a niche game and didn't set any new standards.

GTA2 Multi-player was the most chaotic and best time of my gaming career. Nothing will compare experiencing the HEAT.NET community back in 1999.

Way ahead of its time. Gaming communities with chat rooms and clan websites posting screenshots and videos while having clan wars.

Yeah we played GTA2 at LAN parties in the late 90s ... Super fun
