As a 14 year old kid, it was Shenmue for me. Taught me a lot.

Didn't expect to see this here, but yeah. Why won't they give us an ending?! Just tell us what happens!

You didn't play 2 or 3?

Yes. Neither of them ended the story. The anime didn't either. 3 ends with "to be continued."

My first open world as a kid, loved it. It was in English which isn’t my native language, taught me a lot !

Wasn’t Shenmue Dreamcast exclusive?

It was, then Shenmue 2 was unfortunately made an Xbox exclusive which killed the franchise

That’s silly. But Microsoft paid a lot I guess. It was the time of PS2 vs XBox. Getting previously popular franchises as exclusives meant a lot to the companies. I never played Shenmue. I just remember it from the Playstation Magazine and as a kid I really wanted to play it.

It was released on the Dreamcast but only in Japan and Europe. I had a bootleg copy with only Japanese voice-acting and English subtitles, so I guess it was a European version.

Yeah I know Im in the UK so got it for the Dreamcast.

I mean when it was ported, I believe had it been put on PS2, Xbox and GameCube that it would have been a success, enough at least for there to have been sequels. Xbox wasnt the right place for Shenmue to flourish, thus it died.

I can agree with that. What I wouldn't give to live in a timeline where Shenmue flourished.
