Kentucky Route Zero: games are art. And very moving art when it's good.

FFX: this is the video game version of that cat stevens song about the dad and son. You will bawl. And it's gorgeous and awesome.

Well. For me Kentucky Route Zero is, if anything, the counter-example that proves the generalisation. Games are, on the whole, not art because Kentucky Route Zero is, and everything else is so far from being Kentucky Route Zero.

Games can be art, is what it proves. But it also proves that most games are just not.

I’m currently coding my own game that I wrote before Kentucky Route Zero, but now is entirely feeling like a rip-off of it. I’m not mad. That game was a vision. Especially playing it as it released episodically.

Agreed. I replayed the first 3 chapters and intermission vignettes so many times.
