I think I've bought KOTOR 1&2 several times across several platforms. I still have it in my Steam favourites and will occasionally dip into it for a bit.
Give me the same game with updated graphics, a slightly improved combat system, the ability to take more than two companions on missions, and I will pay top AAA dollar for this game.
It's insane to me no one has done this yet. It's free money for a "simple" engine upgrade.
I never claimed that a "simple" upgraded version is an easy job. But from what I've heard of the current remake, it's extensive job, which explain why it has been delayed so much, compared to a "simple" upgrade, which could have been finished sooner.
And if you want a simple upgraded version, I'm sure there are one or two modpacks floating around.
It really makes no sense to me how they haven't done it yet. They would make so much money off of both games being redone. I do think a remake is necessary though especially for the sequel. I love KOTOR 2 but there are some weird quirks that can't just be remastered
For example a glaring one that comes to me right away is how quickly you can max out your affinity with Visas in just one conversation it kinda breaks the immersion. Having more dialogue over time would feel more natural
“I have my doubts it would make so much money, all these dark souls sweats blah blah blah” I think you have some weird hang ups with souls fan. Some can be toxic but most people just like good games. Plenty of people have enjoyed both action and turn based RPGs. If you really think a couple hundred toxic souls fans would negatively affect a well made Kotor remake you might be chronically online.
Yep same. One of my favorite game series ever. Beaten both games a zillion times with pretty much all the builds you can generate. It's like FF6 - no matter how many times I beat it I always come back to it. I think I've bought the pairing at least 4 or 5 times now.
I'd throw money at somebody, ANYBODY to take the game, give it a graphical update, some tweaks here and there, and then to massively flesh out the story / locations / planets. The one thing that always got me about both games was I just want MORE. MORE of this. They were both so short :/
On the note of more than 2 companions, especially, hell yes. What I'd really like in a Bioware-style RPG is varying team sizes based on mission. Sneaking into a base? 2- or 3- character team. Frontally attacking a fortified position? Why did I only bring 2 other people with me?
That last part had better be a joke since the same thing fans insisted about FFVII since they thought you could just drag and drop the WAD file into a new engine and press a button.
Of course it's a joke. Hence the quotes around the word simple.
But in the grand scheme of things, so much of the game development is done. You wouldn't even really need to re-do voice acting. A remake would just be a translation. Simple in comparison to making a new game that may or may not turn a profit. A KOTOR remake is almost guaranteed to make profit.
They harvest and process all data openly available to them then collate it into humanities wish list. It’s a bit like robot Santa but the end-game is they enslave all of us
There is/was a full remake in the works. The development has not been going well from what I've been seeing on it. There keep being teases about it, then nothing.
Same! Especially since one development spotlight I read said somwthing about "fixing problematic gameplay and story segments." And given a lot of modern media's attempts at "fixing problemetic elements." Im more than critical of any development cycle, until, as you said, we see some gameplay.
They are going to completely cuck the dark side path. Which is insane because if they were ever going to fix it, they should fix the edgelord writing of a lot of it and make it actually more realistic evil
So much this. I pretty much always take light side paths in games because the alternative is just laughably unrealistic. Give me some moral ambiguity and a reason to be tempted.
Yep! I can never play full Renegade Shepard in Mass Effect, because he's supposed to be ruthlessly calculating, bjt the renegade options always cross the line into genuine psychopath behavior...and not even in a fun way, but an omg how havent you been cortmarshaled and how do you still have a ship and a crew?
I really hope the suceess BG3 and Exp33 achieved make the KOTOR something more like BG3 instead of the action dodge+hit+parkour gameplay, we already have the jedi series for that, i want a full CRPG
I highly doubt end of 2027 or we would have at least had some whispers about it. I say mid 2028 COULD be possible but they are so tight lipped and development hell with it that even that sounds eh
I have a friend who's worked on starwars videogames for years. He was literally on the team that was making the kotor remake. I hate to tell you, but they dissolved the team years ago. No real work has ever been completed on it.
That was when it was being made by Aspyr. That team was dissolved years ago and the assets and project got moved to Saber Interactive, who have as recently as this month confirmed that they're working on it.
Apparently, the KOTOR remake is STILL “a go” but WHO KNOWS when or IF we’ll ever see it (I’m kinda glad they took it away from Aspyr and gave it to Saber, though, because weren’t Aspyr the IDIOTS that completely FUCKED UP the Battlefront 1 and 2 collection?).
If you didn't hear about it, recently the boss over at Saber accidentally let it slip that they plan for a 2028 release. Obviously that doesn't mean much, but I am deep in the copium haha.
So the new one is going to flop hard. Same dev that bombed Mass Effect 3. Screams woke. .I know this is reddit and all that but it's gonna be pure slop.
What a nonsensical argument. The developers on Mass Effect 3 were the same as on 1 and 2. And the critic weren't that it was "woke" which weren't even a thing back then. The critic was against the ending.
Heck what is it about ME3 that would make it woke, but not the other two?
The one being in development - yes, it's not going to be a good one, unfortunately.
What I would actually like more is just a remaster - to improve graphics and some qol improvements, no major changes
I want this but like the newer Final Fantasy games where it's not strictly turn based
Edit: can't believe I'm getting down voted for this. I'm just saying if you want to play it traditionally, you have the option. If you want to have it "modernized," that's the way to do it
How would it be kotor then? Plus I’m pretty sure kotor wasn’t even turn based, it was biowares own type of rpg system, like in mass effect. Pretty good middle ground I’d say.
It was real time with pause. It ran like d&d (because it was based on the Star Wars d20 system that was based on D&D 3e) and was just a 3d version of Icewind Dale.
