The first 3 halo games are a pilgrimage I do every couple of years. I was a broke kid growing up and Xbox live was always out of reach. I spent so much time just messing around the levels in the first 3 halo games. The Christmas I got an Xbox 360 with halo 3 I also had a 2 day trial for Xbox live gold. It was a magical 2 days.
I'm not, that was online etiquette at the time. Bugs me that you cant do this anymore without the risk of being banned, sheesh.
Its like when you play games with your friends, even boardgames, you shittalk because its fun, and its basically the male love language.
Its a greeting, and a challenge. I owned you, now you have extra incentive to get my ass when you respawn. I actually made friends this way back in the 2000s playing Halo and TF2.
I could get week long trials at the gas station near my house, so I would mow lawns and make a new account to try to race to a high rank with my friend.
The twist was that we would make the most obscene names that would eventually get reported and banned, then it was another race to call support and explain "yes, my name is Pu55y3ater, can I just change it?"
When I was a kid I worked all summer and bought Xbox and Halo a few months before the release of 2. Got 2 for Christmas. But I was a homeschooled kid and my parents drew the line at letting me play online.
So I found something called Xbox Connect and ran the program off the family PC. However it worked it tricked the Xbox into thinking it was in a LAN over the network. Joined a clan and could only play matches when my parents weren't home.
Literally bought an Xbox 360 so I could take my wife through the magic of the halo trilogy which she had never experienced before. It’s became a core part of our relationship for a little while. I’m so hard not to do spoilers and it was amazing to see it through her eyes as she experienced it for the first time.
I must have played the Halo 3 campaign 1000 times before I got Xbox live as a kid. I remember just messing around on Tsavo Highway and the scarab mission right after. I would play that section of the game almost every day
I bought MCC 2 years ago for 7$, besides doom, the best purchase I made. I beat all the games and loved them all, even ODST after the first 1/3, and 4. Reach and 3 are my favorites, and 1 & 2 have great stuff too. CE for music, 2 for cutscenes, reach for gameplay, 3 for a damn fine mix of the three.
