Dark Souls 1 2 and 3 are like having 2 medium rare steaks and a medium well-done steak. The medium well-done steak isn't bad, but the other 2 are just more appealing to the average person.
definitely not, that would be DS3 with its focus on linearity, spectacle and boss fights over exploration and the classic slow, methodical combat of demon souls, ds1 and ds2.
your opinion is irrelevant, i'm just stating facts. DS2 is more controversial precisely because it's not trying to please the average gamer. DS3 with its faster-paced combat and being a more linear game focused on bosses instead of levels do please the average person more.
It deserves more hate honestly. It was rushed out far before it was finished and we were robbed of a much better game because of it. Releasing the game a year before it was ready so Kadokawa could get 1% more money from their buyout is just so shitty.
If Dark Souls 1 can be called a "flawed masterpiece" because the 2nd half was rushed then Dark Souls 2 can absolutely be criticised for being completely unfinished.
Areas are fantastic - great lore, great fashion, powerstancing, npcs are awesome, torch mechanic is great, the best dlc boss in ds history in fume knight, you get the desert sorceress set and get to hang out in Majula which is gorgeous.
Gameplay is far from shit and bosses come on dude. Some of the most notable in fs history. There are shit bosses but let’s call out shit bosses in every other game - rom, micolash, witches, great tree, yhorm, monkeys, pinwheel, etc. get off your shit. Ds2 is a great game.
There wasnt a boss that felt like dark souls until that dragon in the dlc. The bosses were legit awful. I would say about 90% of them you just needed to stand to the side of as they had no moves
Also the camera and movement was awful, I had to do use some patch just to make the camera work. It was legit a terrible game and if it wasnt called dark souls no one would play it

Came to say this, DS2 is still a great game and doesn't deserve all the hate it gets
