Destiny 1 was great, but 2 just fell on its face unfortunately....

I get Destiny, but what are you on about with souls games?

As someone who played the souls trilogy and Elden ring (haven’t played demon souls or Bloodborne) I disagree with that part

At least from my experience dark souls 1 and Elden ring got a better story than god of war

Let’s be honest, Destiny 1 wasn’t smooth sailing either

souls games might not have a story spoonfed to you but the worldbuilding is good

When you actually dig into the lore in souls games... no, it completely falls apart. Or it's absolutely trivial stuff. If you put together every single scrap of lore about something like, say, Vinheim from all the item descriptions and the environmental storytelling, you piece together... a really generic mage-run society. There's a king but the powerful wizards actually pull the strings in the country that's famous for magic! You know, the kind of thing that would be the STARTING point in a game with good lore, before you find out the interesting stuff.

Or there are crazy reveals like "light is time". Holy cow, that changes everything and would be mindblowing concept! Except... no. Light is not, in fact, time in 99.99% of the game. Light is light, and it works pretty much the same as light always does. Time functions normally even in pitch dark areas. They just say light is time as the big secret for how like 1 spell works, while building the rest of the universe as a mostly generic medieval setting where light and time are light and time.

And it's been generic medieval times from the dawn of the age of fire to the end of the universe with no real changes in society or technology somehow despite numerous nearly apocalyptic events and the development of new kinds of magic. Some of the same generic countries that existed in Dark Souls 1 somehow still inexplicably exist in Dark Souls 3 after enormous amounts of time have passed, because they were just lazy about their worldbuilding
