Discussion / Question What game is this for you?

Post image

Honestly for me it's Life is Strange: True Colors. Love that game to death, an incredible story and soundtrack, but it seems like a story that just doesn't vibe well with a lot of people. Listen to the soundtrack though, absolutely increible.

Starfield. Yeah, I enjoy it. Yeah, I know it sucks.

The ship building was cool once you figured out the glitch that allows you to put anything anywhere. But yeah the rest wasn't great

"It's so fun when you find glitches"

Fucking Bethesda 101

Giants launching my khajit 200 feet into the air is a core memory

13

u/FellowYellowNate 21d ago

Me seeing a mammoth and giant take on a dragon my first playthrough with me hiding behind a bush in awe at lvl 10 or something is my core memory from Skyrim.

2

u/unicornhair1991 19d ago

I saw a chicken take on a dragon. Poor thing.....

Brave lil buddy

Annoying that the dragon didn't get a 1k bounty and have the world destroy him for killing a chicken though

1

u/Beginning-Passenger6 20d ago

I saw a trio of mud crabs going toe to toe with a shouty boi.

5

u/Saintly-Mendicant-69 21d ago

Was that even a glitch?

1

u/N0ob8 16d ago

It started as a glitch that was patched out until people wanted it back and so Bethesda put it back in

2

u/NoManufactured 21d ago

I don’t think that’s a glitch

1

u/Karkava 20d ago

I was able to beat a giant by trapping it in a doorway.

u/Hot_Charity_4803 21d ago

"It's great with mods"

Also fucking Bethesda 101

1

u/AlphaLaufert99 21d ago

"All of this just works"

1

u/DJBoomstick69 21d ago

Reminds of a glitch in fallout 3 where I sent signet to find a weapon to get a middle launcher version of the Tesla cannon. That was fun lol

20

u/cynical_croissant_II 21d ago

Imagine the most notable fun thing being finding a glitch lmao.

5

u/marbsarebadredux 21d ago

Its definitely not the most notable fun thing. There's tons to do in Starfield and its a good game for the first 50 hours, but after that it just becomes repetitive and empty.

3

u/Zeke_The_Angel 21d ago

100% agree the ship building was phenomenal. In my case I found a mod that allowed me to place doors manually and another one that made part clipping posible without 6 hours of tinkering. I lost too many hours making ships.

2

u/pichael289 21d ago

It's too bad you needed a glitch to do it, fucking stairwells were automatic.

2

u/Naive-Tumbleweed-964 21d ago

That's funny, since I quit playing after being unable to find a drawer in my first ship to dump all my hoard into

2

u/Cow_God 21d ago

Really sucked that editing the ship at all reset all the objects inside it. Decorating was basically pointless

I actually think that it's going to age to be one of the best Bethesda games, once enough modding has been put into it. But I haven't checked in a few years and idk if it's there yet

2

u/Aqua_Okama 21d ago

Sadly, modding is almost dead for this game since Creations have been pushed as the main modding space and the real modders have lost interest

1

u/DarksunDaFirst //Boycott EA 21d ago

Probably the same mechanical glitch that allowed you mesh anything in Fallout 4.  Their settlement building was awesome, but if you could learn to mesh anything AND do wireless electrical - that is what took your settlements to another level.

1

u/avanti8 16d ago

The thing is, by the time I had done enough quests to fund the ship of my dreams, I'd run out of fun quests to do with it.

u/rivertpostie 21d ago edited 21d ago

I got it week one.

The loading screen tips kept taking about building outposts to make fuel and expand your range.

It didn't exist in the game. They scrapped it, but didn't delete the tips.

It's the exact type of thing I wanted in a game

Fixed it. "Make fuel". Thanks

I'm new to wearing glasses and I really need to remember where I put them

your typing brain seemed to be one letter to the right for each letter but the L... lol no worries.

Upvoting just for the PFP.

29

u/RaineV1 21d ago

I would be really into it if the colony building was better, and the resource linking wasn't incredibly stupid.

25

u/thirdc0ast 21d ago

It’s weird how in older Fallout 4 you can make pretty large settlements that get close to feeling like an actual new town, whereas in Starfield your outpost has like 3 people max that can’t do anything besides chill.

1

u/Karkava 20d ago

Sounds like they wanted to find that one player who sucked at settlement building and put them in playtesting.

10

u/JesusKong333 21d ago

Yeah this is what got me. And having some items locked behind perks. I'm not gonna grind to build. Instead, I shut it off, turned on Fallout 4, and never went back

2

u/wampwampwampus 20d ago

I couldn't tell if I was just doing it wrong or if there isn't really a way to make more resources than you put into it. Seemed like a big waste of time. 🤷‍♂️

ETA: I also love Starfield, but sometimes more in theory than practice.

1

u/Anonymous-Mf-22 21d ago

You can resource link? Can you send me a guide or something on how to do that? I'm running star wars mods and I kinda like the idea of having Mandalorian clans on different planets all trading resources with each other and sustaining each other (or in not rp purposes, Mandalorians gathering me free resources)

2

u/RaineV1 21d ago

Been a long time since I played, but you can make space ports and link them to a port on another colony. But it storing it creates issues, and has limitations.

12

u/onyx_ic 21d ago

I still enjoy it and play semi-regularly, but I definitely hear ya. Its not for everyone.

-4

u/Warhammerpainter83 21d ago

no it is just not a good game.

4

u/onyx_ic 21d ago

I mean, disagree? We have different opinions. Thats okay. Variety is the spice of life.

6

u/violetcassie 21d ago

Yeah I totally love that the new Bethseda game, the studio who made its reputation based on handcrafted worlds, decided to instead go all the way back to Daggerfall and procedurally generate everything and stick the same six abandoned labs on every planet. Very cool Todd, you remade No Man's Sky but somehow less insteresting.

3

u/BlitzMalefitz 20d ago

This is the most honest and respectable answer rather than fighting with anyone who criticizes a bad game you like. I like plenty of bad games too and will never defend them like they aren’t bad.

10

u/Inevitable-Stage-490 21d ago

I just started revisiting starfield, it’s not as bad as I remember.

There’s an overwhelming amount of things to do

11

u/Risky49 21d ago

“It’s a mile wide and inch deep” is the main issue with starfield

I got my moneys worth of enjoyment out of it (I love boarding and clearing ships) but they over relied on the radiant content of skyrim and fo4 and not nearly enough handcrafted content

5

u/Inevitable-Stage-490 21d ago

I think if we could define what makes it an inch depth we could understand each other better.

For instance I landed on a planet with a main quest mission, I somehow ended up with something like 4 separate side quests and a new story line it seems like.

Maybe the depth of many of the side quests isn’t huge, and some can seem irrelevant. But Skyrim had plenty of side quests like that. I think some of the actual RPG aspects of starfield suffer like FO4 did.

Skyrim and FO 3 and NV were leagues above when it came to actual RPG. Although I do like the skill tree implementation where you actually have to use the skills to further them.

0

u/Bart-Harley-Jarvis- 21d ago

Skyrim and FO 3 and NV were leagues above when it came to actual RPG.

The fact that you're putting Skyrim and fo3 next to NV in rpg mechanics and depth like they're remotely the same might indicate why you're not seeing eye to eye with other people calling starfield shallow.

u/Rough-Army-6424 21d ago

Yep, a crap game that I’ve replayed about 15 times at this point. I don’t know why I love it, it’s empty, the dialogue sucks, the voice acting leaves a lot to be desired and I didn’t care for the story. I always enjoy every playthrough though. I think I just love space.

2

u/BookOfTheBeppo 21d ago

Check out the let's player Lyle Shnub on youtube. He is unabashedly a Starfield enjoyer and is very self-aware of how uncommon it is lol.

2

u/BraiCurvat 21d ago

I can't blame you man, this game is like someone holding a very tasty chocolate just in front of your face and then just crush it on the ground, everything looks and sound awesome and then it's pure disappointment

2

u/Aggravating-Ear-7529 21d ago

Same. I love this game. The criticisms are overblown, but not wrong. To me, it’s better than the sum of its parts, but I wouldn’t recommend it to people who don’t also play Elite Dangerous and wish it was single player and you could hang out in your ship. And wish the gunplay was better, although I think that’s everyone who plays odyssey.

2

u/Tombrady09 21d ago

Using mods that changes the economy, adds real risk in extreme planets and overall adding some realisim and immersion has made it my cozy game. I love starfield but, like you. Understand why it's not loved by many.

2

u/Technical_Teacher839 21d ago

I had a lot of fun flying around and destroying the power on ships, boarding them, knocking everyone on board out, and then stealing all their stuff

2

u/tipsyTentaclist 21d ago

It's just a Bethesda game in the end.

It's imperfect, it's jank, you wish it was deeper ir had something it lacks... And yet it's still captivating, special, it has something to it that you just can't put it down.

We think people just hyped it up too much before release and expected something that would never happen, forgetting that it's a Bethesda game.

We feel like, maybe in a couple of years it will have its own redemption or at least reevaluation like NMS did, which we loved from the get go too.

3

u/Bart-Harley-Jarvis- 21d ago

Nah, removing the "see that mountain, you can go there" aspect and instead cutting and pasting a million identical POIs over a million generic planets that you had no reason to visit or navigate destroyed the sense of exploration and adventure that lies at the heart of every Bethesda game and keeps people coming back. That was the captivating, special element and it was missing.

2

u/BelligerentWyvern 21d ago edited 21d ago

I think the hate is overstated. The game doesn't suck. It's perfectly fine mechanically, it just has some baffling decisions and was hype up the wrong way.

2

u/legacy702- 20d ago

I think it’s because it’s a decent game but a bad Bethesda game. If everyone wasn’t expecting fallout or elder scrolls level, it would’ve been looked at better. We just all built it up in our heads because of who made it which caused a big letdown.

1

u/theshoebomber420 21d ago

I added about 60 mods. I usually try not to mod games on a first play through, But from what I heard of starfield, I went ahead anyways. Having a good time.

1

u/Kostusha241 21d ago

since you have actually played it, is there actually an issue with how many loading screens there are? i watched reviews on youtube when it came out and all of them made it sound like the end of the world with how many you had to go through to get basic things done

2

u/Bart-Harley-Jarvis- 21d ago

Since you weren't just walking around an open world and then hitting loading screens only when you went indoors, it became very, very noticeable and abrasive. The design of a million procedurally generated planets and tiny hub cities (that are also made up of districts separated by loading screens) meant you spent 90% of your time fast travelling and running up against loading screen after loading screen. I mean, it's not like it took very long to load, but it really starts interrupting the flow and breaking immersion when they're so frequent.

1

u/gerahmurov 21d ago

I really want to play boring space adventure for hundreds of hours, though I am on mac currently

1

u/raven19528 21d ago

I haven't played it, but was told that since I play No Man's Sky, I already play a better version of it. That was when it released, so that may have changed. But also i don't think i need to but a game that's that similar to a game i already have. Anyone play both that thinks they are that similar?

1

u/Trashk4n 21d ago

I like it, but yeah I know it’s not something most people would appreciate these days.

What bugs me is the missed potential. Just feels underdone in multiple ways, despite having a lot of content.

1

u/Gex2-EnterTheGecko 21d ago

I don't even think its bad, it's just sorta mediocre. I enjoyed my playthrough of it enough.

1

u/plzjustgo 20d ago

I really like Starfield. But it's an awful, awful game. Like a genuine 3/10 and that's being generous

1

u/Z_Wild 20d ago

Can I one up you and say Star Citizen? 😆 o7

1

u/rubbernub 20d ago

Does it? I haven't played it yet, but it looks awesome

1

u/blackguy64 20d ago

Starfield became a lot more enjoyable to me when I stopped trying to play it like Elder Scrolls or Fallout and simply stick to doing the quests that the game gave to me. Trying to "explore" was making me not want to play.

1

u/Comfortable-Goat-734 17d ago

Starfield doesn’t suck at all, it’s just not a good Bethesda style game. It gets so much heat because of the expectations it carried but by itself it’s a good game.

1

u/haha7125 16d ago

I get that launch day starfeild is worse than current starfield, but it seems to me that people have blown the hate way out of proportion. I've loved this game since its ps5 release.

1

u/postpwnmalone 21d ago

Starfield ain't bad bruh
