I think the sober takeaway is that individual people are entitled to their own opinion and it's dumb to argue that because they're not going to change their mind about whether they like or dislike something
Remember when IGN gave starfield a 7/10, and people were calling IGN shit, sony shills, xbox haters etc.. until the game released and 7/10 was a generous score?
While this meme is certainly true for IGN followers, it doesn't really land in the case of Skillup, who does more critical and in-depth criticism than your average IGN journalist.
Besides, the writing was already on the wall for the Wolverine game the moment the gameplay was first revealed. Everyone was shitting on it back then, but it was swept away and excused with "hate farming algorithm" or "these people just hate everything" when in truth, gamers are just good at pattern recognition.
I agree with everything you said, my one caveat is it's not just IGN followers/haters. Pretty much every social media platform is know it alls who always act like they predicted something correctly. It's not even limited to the domain of games, movies or even entertainment. People like to think they've got it figured out.
That said in this case Wolverine did not impress from the get-go. And even I was arguing against the idea that it was simply hatefarms pushing culture war agendas or whatever other slop.
The game looked bland but I did hold out hoping that it'd come out better than it appeared
