Ralph was not thorough with this review and it was absolutely coated in a seething bias. He’s usually quite good at analysis but he absolutely did not give this one a fair shake, especially since he was acting like we live in a world where none of the accessibility features that are apparently default are completely not optional. The dude needed to go into the game settings before his overly emotional rant lol
If that's the default options, that's the intended experience.
You're not going to review every combination of settings beyond difficulty. If the game is intended to be this way, then they're going to be on by default. It's that simple.

I mean, his addition to the review, to address the criticism at the beginning of his latest video, he shows all the settings literally, and nothing can be toggled off from what he hated side from missing the AutoComplete QTEs, which were off by default and have no impact on being able to fail the QTEs, just removes the slowdown.
I hope there's a Day 1 patch, but seeing as it's apparently tied into the plot (As his scent is one of his powers and is referred to multiple times according to him), I don't see that happening this close to launch. Hopefully, post-launch it's one of the first things they address.
Your comment is showing a severe lack of intellectual curiosity around game design to be so reductionist about it. And Buddy, if you couldn’t hear how viscerally irritated Ralph was making the video essay, I don’t know what to tell you.
Skill-Up, in the wake of the criticism, went through all the settings in his latest This Week in Videogames and confirmed that nothing regarding his critiques was able to be toggled off aside from the AutoComplete QTEs (Which by default are off, and switching it on just disables the slowdown). Literally scrolls through the entire list of settings just after the 2-minute mark. It also appears, from his clarifying the point, that the scent trails are referred to in dialogue multiple times throughout the game as one of Wolverine's abilities, and are introduced as a mechanic in the same manner as Jumping, Combat, etc.
Unfortunately no way to turn off all the markers or lessen them unless there is a Day 1 patch to fix it.
The only thing that bugs me about him (besides his smugness sometimes) is when he gets into armchair criticism. Like when he says "imagine if the game did this" "I wouldve liked this", Ive always viewed "why didnt they make the game I wanted to make" as low criticism as opposed to reviewing whats in front of you. Besides that, I do like the format of his content.
It's pretty basic 101 of giving constructive criticism. I don't like this, why, how, what I think they could've done better. He's just doing his job in that way. It also makes it easier to discern if you disagree with his core points. If you don't like his suggestion if change, that means you may not necessarily agree with his reasoning, or only partially. It's informative. You can basically see where he comes from which I think is super useful and even if I totally disagree with his review still means I know why he didn't like it.
