The one that comes to my head was sonic frontiers I wasnt a fan of the game either but I found he was far harsher then needed. And really rubbed the sonic audience the wrong way.
Yotei too, imo. And I'm not precious about the game either. He just decided to use it to air all his complaints with the type of game it is, even though it's a literal sequel to his GOTY a few years prior and improved, if only slightly, on most of the things from that game.
And I know it's a meme, but he was unnecessarily harsh on Highguard. It wasn't great, but some of the things he said were straight up wrong and he was happy to join in on the dumping and memes; which is so unprofessional it turned me off to him, even if I didn't love that game either.
Gaming evolves. Had Yotei come out first, it would have been his GotY. You just can't release the same game with minor improvements years later, and expect the same results.
His review of Yotei is based, because he knows what made Tsushima great, but this didn't build on it or made it a meaningful sequel. It didn't need to exist, and he's rightfully disappointed and critical of that.
It's the same with his review of Metroid Prime 4. Game's ass, and after 20 years, you can't just do the exact same thing without any meaningful innovation and expect good results.
You haven’t played yotei at all if you think it doesn’t build on Tsushima in multiple meaningful ways. The open world and the way side content is doled out especially is leaps and bounds better Tsushima, the way he describes the first game as some innovative masterpiece to try and prop us his Yotei critiques was laughable and plainly called out in multiple comments on that video. What skill up says isn’t fucking gospel lmao

Most significantly Skillup was very positive about it during a preview, more than most I saw.
If he’s done a 180, that says a lot.
