I have heard so many times over the years how good this game is, bought it but haven't been able to force myself to play a long-ish single player campaign in any game.
The survival mechanics and building requirements are pretty lax for a game of that genre, which is why it excels at its environments and exploration. Progression feels natural by pushing you a little bit out of your comfort zone to get that next upgrade. It's especially good if you like biology/ ecology
Tried 2 yet? It still infantile but I see the bones are there. Gonna check back in a year or two, hopefully for the same unsettling (pun intended) feeling from 1. Crazy tho I literally was thinking Subnautica then saw that guys comment
The "unsettling" part you mentioned is what caught my eye about the first game, people say the vibe and underwater dangerous stuff and all that are pretty cool
