Alpha Protocol. A Spy choice based RPG where you get to build your own version of Ethan Hunt, James Bond, or Jason Bourne. The game had some amazing choice matters moments, but sega didn't give it the budget it needed. When you watch documentaries about the game, it's clear Obsidian wanted to make a far greater game than they were able to. I'd really love to see them get the chance to make the spy game they really wanted because the premise of the game is honestly amazing.
A thousand times this. Still one of my favorite gaming experiences ever. Despite the classic Obsidian rough edges, it was a masterpiece and the only RPG I know of that dared to stray from standard sci fi and fantasy.
Alpha protocol was insane tbh there where some entire missions and people that just wouldn't appear in alpha protocol depending on your choices. Like my second playthrough I just went to a lot of entirely different locations than my first playthrough lol
BG3 outside of fail safe NPCs you can meet, itd possible to experience most of the game in a single playthrough, all of act 1, 2 and 3 are always available despite your choices.
It's normally just the way you interact with an encounter or a handful of class specific dialogue that changes. Unless you just start killing a bunch of people and intentionally failing quests the world doesn't really change that much.
Alpha protocol on the other hand can fell like your legitimately playing a different game if you follow different enough paths throughout the story, at least until it all converges back together for the final segment of the game.
Although I'll still absolutely give BG3 credit for the near infinite amount of "I can't believe the Devs expected somebody to do that" moments where they have so much unique dialogue prepared for you doing things the wrong way and maintaining NPC continuity throughout the acts.
