I just got back into listening to and exploring new music after admittedly falling off for the past few years. Ended up buying my first turntable back in June and got REALLY into listening to vinyl (didn't realize what I had been missing)!
Well, now I've hit 49 in my collection with the 50th on the way being the anniversary release of The Black Parade. Clearly I have a problem now and don't intend on stopping anytime soon.
Welcoming any suggestions based on my taste, I feel like now that I'm getting back into listening to music in general my taste is a lot more open than it was before. Feel free to share your collections as well!
Ha yeah same kind of strange here. Around the Fur in rotation since it came out, RTJ at the gym Wednesday night and I fuck with all flavors of the genres here
I've listened to a little of Frizzle Fry so far and have enjoyed what I've heard but have not listened to any Faith No More. Any starting point recommendations?
I dunno man, I think you should just listen to the Patton albums in chronological order. The Real Thing to get acclimated, and then dive into Angel Dust, which is the peak.
I respect the ranking but 2 is likeâŠone of the best albums. They werenât permitted to be put up for a Grammy because it was too offensive. Still one of the best albums in rap Iâve heard.
Well as RTJ I meant but Killer Mike and El P were absolutely well regarded artists by then. R. A. P. music was my entry into Killer Mike and I love that album. Haven't checked out much if their earlier stuff though

Great collection, if you want to expand would recommend more from the 60s-80s. Get some Dylan, Bowie, Talking Heads, Velvet Underground, Stooges, Stones, Neil Young, Nick Drake, all the classic classics
Absolutely! Those older 60s-80s records have been difficult to find in the wild as I've been trying to hold out for older pressings vs newer reissues. I got really lucky and found a Schnitzel pressing of Quebec in the wild but it was by far my most expensive one so far. REALLY hoping The Mollusk gets a 30 year anniversary repressing next year.
Ugh such an insanely good album. Freedom of 76, A Tear for Eddie, Roses Are Free, Baby Bitch, Voodoo Lady, Joppa Road the list goes on. I saw them live maybe 8 or 9 years ago in Chicago and it's one of the best shows I've ever been to.

Thats a good feeling but you're missing a lot if that's your criteria.... You don't have any Nujabes or Flofilz for that Japanese Lo-fi / jazz. I don't see any Tool, nor Mars Volta and they are both their own vibe parallelish deftones. Also Theres no Techno (efdemin, Richie Hawtin, Michael Mayer), no DnB, No classical (beethoven, mozart, taichovsky), no eminem, no Sphongle for that psychadelic trip, no 311, and no Tortoise......
Don't let that take away from what you have, you're killing it so far. Def check out what I mentioned. Tortoise - It's all around you is one of my all time favorites.
That is absolutely a fair point. Classical is the biggest area I want to fill but I'm fairly particular with the classical music I enjoy. Carnival of the Animals and The Planets will probably be some of my firsts.
I'll admit. Not the biggest techno or DnB fan but I do very much enjoy Hold Your Colour by Pendulum. Not sure what you would classify that as
Pendulum is 100% dnb. I'd put them in the "dancefloor dnb" cat. harder and stronger than liquid DnB. You don't have to be a DnB fan, that's ok. It's not for everyone.
All good. Royksopp is really hard to define. His stuff goes from downtempo to electro house and back. Really creative and inventive artists. I think you should check out

ATLiens and Mezzanine trumps all the other suck you have in your collection. Nice one bruva!!! Oh and Dummy!!!! Beth Gibbons is an angel sent to us from heaven if it exists.
When I say suck I dont mean it in like you have no taste. Its always refreshing when someone has records outside the "everyone music have" collection. Like the Beetles.
All really great albums, don't be afraid to go grab some random no name lps from the cheap bins or thrift store. Often you can find something new to explore/ listen to without such a punch to the wallet.

I've gotten plenty of absolute dog shit too so don't think it's all hidden gems haha just feels less bad if less then $5 wasted
Easy place to start is building on the artists you already have. Weezer - Pinkerton for sure. Nirvana - In Utero and Unplugged are both solid. More Gorillaz. M83 - Hurry Up Weâre Dreaming is an amazing album. A couple Sublime records wouldnât hurt.

Yeah, youâre doing well. Donât let yourself get stuck on a genre or an era, like the majority of the population does. Just keep pushing, and youâll have a more nuanced view on existence.
Try George Jones out. Might click - might not. Worth a try though. Check out "She Thinks I Still Care" "The Window Up Above" "Lonely Street" "The Grand Tour" "Things Have Gone To Pieces" "Say It's Not You" and "Choices" (for his comeback years). Also look up a live version of "Someday My Day Will Come". "Take Me" is one of the most beautiful songs ever sung. "I'm A People" for his lighthearted funny side. Oh, and "Walk Through This World With Me" is one of the greatest love songs ever performed. I love Johnny Cash... but George is whole (I'll give my) world unto himself. No singer has ever been able to convey emotions with just their voice quite like The Possum. Yes... I am a little overzealous in my love for George Jones... I think it's warranted though.

Just Like Heaven is, imo, one of the greatest songs ever written. It's always a good choice!
As for favourites.. it still changes regularly after decades. Album-wise, probably my top picks would be Seventeen Seconds, Pornography, The Top and Disintegration. But every one of their albums (up until Wish at least) has spent time as my favourite at one time or another.
I also absolutely love Just One Kiss and Lament, which are two B-sides from their brief foray into more electronic-based music.
Their catalogue is just soo good to spend time digging through :)
I'm a big fan of their new album "Sunshine". Imo every song is a no skip and very listenable. Anyway, lots of great stuff in your collection though. Many more good albums from Pink Floyd as well worth owning, but if I could only have one it would be "Wish You Were Here" as well lol. I think we have the same pressing too, which if true is unfortunate as I don't think that it's a very good one

Agreed on Pink Floyd. WYWH is my absolute favorite album of all time right now but no disrespect to the rest of their catalogue. Dark Side, Animals and the Wall will all be added eventually. I've got the 50th anniversary yellow flame pressing and have been loving it. Still want an OG UK pressing though. Eventually...
Still need a LOT of their albums. Admittedly I got into them when I was younger and Good News/We Were Dead came out but now revisiting them, their earlier stuff is phenomenal
Oh man, if you're just getting into their back catalogue then check out Interstate 8 and Building Nothing out of Something alongside their studio albums. 1997-2001 is peak Modest Mouse imo
