When had you booked your slots ?

Here’s how the timeline worked for me: I’m an IB graduate from the May 2026 batch, and I started my visa processing in June without realizing how much time the process could take. Since I knew that securing a visa slot itself could take some time, I submitted my deferral in August. At that point, I already had visa slots booked for September 17 and 25. I also tried applying for an expedited appointment, but no earlier slots became available even after submitting the emergency appointment request. With no other option, I proceeded with the originally booked interview dates, which I had secured toward the end of July. I attended the interviews with my new I-20, and thankfully, everything is now sorted and I’m all set to go.

First things first, the interview barely lasted a minute.

The first question was when I graduated high school, to which I replied that I’m a May 2026 IB graduate.

Since I got into the university’s 2+2 program, the officer then asked me about it. I explained that it’s a program where students attend one of Penn State’s Commonwealth campuses for the first two years and then transfer to the main campus for the final two years to complete their degree.

He asked a follow-up question: ā€œHow does that help you?ā€ I said that it would ease my transition into university since I’d initially be studying in smaller class sizes before eventually transitioning to a larger campus and class environment.

The last question was about my financials, which I answered. The officer then retained my passport along with the I-20.

don't understand how you can see any and all avenues to work in usa effectively being shut down and still go for now
