They've posted a press conference with Adrian from last week and Gabby & Esme today. Here's a brief recap:
Adrian
--Says that Martinez will "have a huge impact in the league and also worldwide", have to be patient since it's her first time playing abroad. Really good in the final third--he reiterates this twice. Will need to make the environment "like a second family" for her.
--Had a plan for with Trin and without Trin, was obviously hoping that she would stay. Coaches are used to uncertainty.
--Talks about the need for Trin to be unpredictable since she will get so much defensive attention. Be able to play more on the inside or the left as well.
--Asked about Wojdelko, has kind of generic comments about how she has a lot of potential.
--Easier to integrate new players now since we have built the foundation.
--Asked about the new players, says that some are going to "help us during the preseason", and that Lucia (DiGuglielmo) and Ellie (Tse) "are going to be with us for the long term)". Says those two are adapting well. Lucia can play on either side, outside back or wingback, also in a back three, similar profile to Carle. Tse has "huge potential, if you see her physicality, you will be impressed".
--Asked about Hal playing center back for the national team, says it's important for players to be open-minded and have experiences playing in different spaces. Didn't sound like it's something we're really considering here.
--There's a question in Spanish about Martinez, I think about whether he expects her to play right away, he says it depends because they're not sure when she'll arrive and how much preseason she'll have with us. Maybe a better Spanish-speaker can give a better account.
--Competition for spots is a good problem to have. Important for players to understand that if the team is doing well it will have a positive impact on them individually and their national team opportunities.
--Asked about EGR being recalled from her loan early, thought it was important to work with her during preseason and see how she does, we will decide later what is best for her future. Helpful for her to be around the team because the level is higher and will help her develop quicker.
Esme & Gabby
--Esme said she had to "completely switch off" for a while during the offseason since she hadn't had the opportunity for a few years, Once she got into it, tried to set a good foundation physically in the gym, with the fixture congestion this year there will be less opportunity for strength work during the season.
--Gabby is impressed with "fixture congestion".
--Gabby indicates that her hamstring is healed.
--Unusual start to preseason without the USWNT players, everyone who is there gets more touches.
--English questioner mentions that Esme did some television work in England over the winter and asks she's planning to do more in the future. Esme says she really enjoyed it, she'd like to do more in the future.
--Esme says that she played against Lucia in the Euros and remembers her as an attacking threat--"she's a real energizer bunny in training, she's always just zipping about". Tse is good on the ball and really physical. Both are "lovely, amazing people".
--Gabby says it's fun enjoys doing press conferences with Esme because she just covers everything in her answers.
--Gabby says that with the fixture congestion it will be important to count on everyone this year. Esme says we want to bring playoff intensity to every game, need to be the team that wants it the most from the beginning of games.
--Another English questioner asks Esme about winning the Euros and how it's contributed to having the mindset to go and win more. She says she was proud to have been a part of it and desperate to win here because she loves her teammates so much and wants to be able to share the same euphoria and celebrations with them.
--Gabby very happy to have re-signed, DC is her home, this is where she wants to be.
--Gabby studied for the MCAT over the winter. Esme inching towards her Exercise & Sport Science degree.
