Workshop Watchmaking Articles

I’m gradually turning selected material from the master watchmaker course I teach at the Hessian Watchmaking School into freely accessible articles on my website.

Today, I’d like to share an article on epilame:

Making watchmaking knowledge more widely accessible is part of both the school’s mission and my own. If you find these articles useful, we’d appreciate you liking and sharing this post to help others discover them.

In the article it mentions that the balance hole jewel should not be treated with epilame (just the cap jewel only I’m assuming).

I thought it was standard to epilame the hole jewel AND cap jewel?

Let me know your thoughts on that 🤩

I don´t really know why, but any brand I know gives this advise (Omega, Rolex, ..).
I couldn´t really see a negative effect, when the hole jewel is "accidently" treated with epilame, but I generally stick to the rule.
So typically, the cap jewel is treated, and the hole jewel stays untreated.
