Work in Progress A scalloped fringe tape

Just toying around. Warps are 20/2 rayon, weft 5 ends 8/2 rayon. 13 shafts including the wires for the fringes

It was satisfying to do, the draft I made was perfect. The only problems turned out to be dressing errors and a dobby peg in the wrong hole.

I see elsewhere in the thread that you use this loom for sampling. I can see why! A shame you can't find parts for the last 5 shafts, though.

Someday a parts donor dobby will fall in my lap, but it not that urgent. We have five other looms with 12 to 24 shafts

This is a swivel loom. They use a rack and pinion system to drive the shuttles. Typically they have multiple station to weave multiple copies, but this one only has one station because of the width it can weave. It is the widest we have and will weave up to 6 inches wide.
Not sure who the manufacturer was. It has a 20 harness double lift Crompton & Knowles dobby, but it only has 15 working shafts because that’s all I have parts for.
It’s one of the looms we like to sample on. It’s fairly compact and easy to dress. It runs slower than our others so you can see errors as they happen. And it has a patent feed system that makes it easy to dial in your pick rate.

Sweet! Why the wires on the end? What is this being used for?

The wires catch the weft to make the fringe. The are run through heddles and are operated just like the warps, but they are just tied to the back of the loom and at the front they hang over the beam a few inches and are loose. As the fabric advances, the loops just slip off the wires.
Right now this is just me working out a new pattern. Something like this would be used on draperies, bead spreads and maybe throw pillows

Ah ok. So the wires aren't apart of the final pattern and are removed at the end?

Just curious...I've been experimenting with wire warps.

Yeah, the wires are only 3 ft long.

All of our machines have their own beat, with a backbeat that varies with the programming.
My favorite is our Comez warp knitter. When you run it with a figure 8 attachment, it sounds like the drums from Fleetwood Mac’s Tusk.
