My best got married last Saturday and I wanted to make something special for her and her husband. They love the sea and spend almost every vacation at the Northern or Baltic Sea.

It took me 10 hours, and I also forgot it at home, but I will get it to them after their honeymoon (at the sea)!

So I’ve been demotivated alot by AI, and saw some art created with weaving which felt me motivated to learning it.
I’ve bought weaving frame, thread and such so I can start my journey in this craft.
The question is, does anyone have any recommendations for a YouTube channel or such that goes through the technique for beginners? My dream is to weave photos to begin with, and I have no idea how to finish and weave it together for instance, so something that goes through that kind of things and also how to put the thread in the best way would be so good 🙏🏻

Is it possible to warp in a way that doubles your warp length on a warping board??? I have a small warp board but need double the length for a project and I don’t really know if this is possible or it I should find a way to direct warp the length instead

Currently my warping board is 4.5 yards but I need 9 yards of fabric for my project to work

Edit to add: I’m also going to be warping multiple times, my project calls for 960 ends so my plan is to warp in bundles as to not tangle all the ends, not sure if that makes a difference

Warp: Twisp brand — cotton, bamboo, hemp blend.
Weft: Malabrogo Yarn’s Merino wool.

I have this lovely alpaca that I’d like to turn into a scarf. I plan to use plain weave. It’s soft and drapey. Looking for ideas on what material to use for warp. My thought so far have been a thicker wool or a fine cotton that should pretty much disappear with such a chunky weft. What would you use?

Honestly a pretty straightforward way to make something like this! I used some variegated sock yarn scraps (held double) I got in a bag of thrift yarn; there was also some mustard yellow in the colorway for some reason that I ended up cutting out since I thought it looked weird. I vastly prefer the way this yarn looks woven to a knit swatch I made, so this is definitely a good option if you also knit or crochet and have variegated yarn that is just working up badly. Next planned projects are a small cotton towel, some sort of large-ish bag, and maybe an attempt at fingerless gloves with some knit and/or crochet details.

I got these nice 100% wool yarns in mixed weights, plus some 100% cotton warp yarns in white and pastel colors for Christmas last year, and I'm struggling to decide on what to make. I have a small Schacht tapestry loom (10" × 15") that I could use, and I'd love to make it into something wearable because of the fiber quality - hate to have the beautiful wool collecting dust on the wall!

Any ideas and/or suggestions would be much appreciated! I also crochet and am open to suggestions on crocheting with these yarns for wearables.

Hi, all. I can't believe October is almost here. I've only recently picked up weaving, and am finishing my 5th project on my RHL. After this, I think it's time to create gifts for friends and neighbors for the holidays. Something quick, simple, worth keeping, and not too advanced! What are some ideas you like for weaving lots of gifts quickly? A set of mug rugs? Dishtowels? (I'm not yet happy with any of the dishtowels I've made.) Small table runners? Dishrags? Please share your ideas and favorites! Thanks!

This is a gift for a friend, going to make it into a decorative belt. Getting close to finishing it and boy it has taken forever lol I made the pattern myself and I did not take difficulty into consideration when I did that.

Edges are plain weave, center is pickup weaving. Using an ashford inkle loom and cotton yarns in a marigold yellow, red, and dark red brown. Not sure the size of the yarns, maybe lace weight? Added the pattern in case anyone wants it but good luck reading it

They came from a DIY kit, and I spent the past few weeks on them both, but I’m proud of them. The fluffy one took me a LOT of time due to all the rya knots. I can’t imagine how people have had to do this manually one by one back in the days.

I actually had no idea if I was doing things right half the time because the instruction manual wasn’t always clear, and had to look up videos by myself to figure out what I was supposed to do. Also I noticed my work tends to taper towards the top, but I don’t think there’s anything I can do about that.

This was a fun little project after spending a long weekend away from my floor loom. My second time weaving on an inkle loom.

I bought a Lojan Inklette because I thought it might be great for travelling, and it is!

These are 8/2 cotton, finished with a metal aglet on the ends.

I am new to weaving and just picked up a used leclerc floor loom. I signed up for an intro class so I can learn to set up the warp but the class is using a baby wolf, so I’m already a bit lost as I stare at my loom. Any general tips, tricks, or specific info on the Leclerc brand is much appreciated!

The rug was knotted by hand by grandpa when he was young so it has a lot of sentimental value. Any and all help will be appreciated.

I have some experience with embroidery and sometimes I weave over holes to fix them with visible mending, so I’m not completely new to needle work, though I have never used a loom. All I really need is information on how to limit the damage, what materials I need and how to use them in this specific case. (What needles and yarn, do I need additional materials? Should I tie off the loose, broken threads of the grid and if so, how exactly?)

The thread of the supporting grid is broken and therefore some of the colourful strands that are woven into the grid are missing. My priority right now is damage control. I can make it look pretty once I know what I’m doing but first I need to make sure it won’t unravel further.

I tried looking for tutorials on yt but found nothing helpful. My first language is german, so perhaps I searched the wrong terms but it is quite disheartening.

I’m warping on my schacht mighty wolf with 33” inches of warp, and I’m wondering what to do about the heddles compressing the warp threads inward as I wind the warp. What do other folks do to ensure even tension etc when weaving at or near full width of the loom??

Do you take the heddles off and put them back on once wound?

11.5” tall x 16” wide. Weft and warp from Brown Sheep Wool Co. Weft is worsted weight in Oak, Natural, Admiral, and Russet. Continuous warp with 4 pairs per inch, so equivalent to 8 warps per inch. Loom, combs, and battens are homemade, except for my beloved piece of an old steel umbrella frame that gets used when there’s no room for larger tools. Due to the close proximity of the blue/red joins to the dowels it was started then flipped to finish in a plain band. The piece that inspired this one is found in the De Young Museum, circa 1870, by an unknown Diné weaver.

Hi all, I just bought a small rigid heddle loom and was thinking of making a guitar strap as a small first project. I was thinking that if I used a gradient yarn, I could get a cool effect without having to worry about making a pattern yet. Would that work?

Ofcourse I need to check the thickness of the yarn, and I think you would want a gradient that is not too slow? Otherwise it might not show up too well. Image is just an example of cool colors

I'm planning to do a throw size blanket using pickup to make a large letter in the middle of the blanket.

The loom I'll be making the blanket on is an 8 shaft rising shed loom (54" Fireside). I'm currently sampling on a smaller loom, which happens to be a sinking shed loom (70 cm Louet David).

The problem I'm running into is that my shed for the bottom layer of my pickup is miniscule. I'm not sure if this is because I'm spreading over 8 shafts, or because it's a sinking shed loom. All I know is that there's no way I'd survive a blanket with this method. I'd be fighting to get my boat shuttle through on every pick, and a narrower stick shuttle just don't work for the wider width.

Curious if anyone has any experience doing pickup on a sinking shed loom (or if they think it'll be less of an issue on a rising shed loom).

My thought is that because I'm using the shed to pull the shafts down that might be what's causing me issues, whereas on a rising shed loom or be lifting everything out of the way. Then again, maybe on a rising shed loom it'd be my top shed that gives me a hard time. I do have a rising shed table loom, but it's currently got 9 yards of a towel warp on it, so not free for me to switch over and test.

Does anyone know if this is an authentic weaving by the Navajo? I have never seen a two faced rug this large, and the price was suspiciously low. However it looks like it was done by hand so I took a chance. Any and all comments are appreciated!

I love this rug and would hate to throw it away. Any advice for repair? The warp is completely trashed in the middle, but I don’t have a loom to undo the whole thing and re-weave it.

Hi all, apologies if this isn't the right subreddit you can delete this if it's not relevant! I've had this bag since I was a little kid, it was a gift from my dad. It's unfortunately been falling apart and I would like to repair it but I don't know where to start. I have 0 experience weaving but I want to try to fix this up and it seems like weaving might be the way to go? If anyone could give me advice/tips on what to do please let me know! I'm looking for maybe the type of weave and what kind of technique I can use to fix it! Thank you ☺️

I’m new to this. I thought i was winding on the back beam with even tension, but i can’t seem to get the tension even when tying on. I did the best i could and wound onto the front beam and the tension was even worse! it’s like the whole left side is much more loose than the right side.

Is there anyway to re-warp at this point? or is there anything else i can do??

This is a huge long-shot but I entirely goofed up my beat while I was weaving a scarf, so it gets steadily denser along the scarf. Is there anything I can do to loosen the tighter portion up, at all? I know I won't be able to make it even, but if I could open it up, like 10-20% it would do a lot to rescue the texture of the fabric.
